Heh heh. Good question. Well, since my abstinence is only two months max, its still bearable. No need for vice outside marriage. Free of AIDS.

And one more very important point. Unlike other logging camp bosses who I heard provide local "wives" to their foreign workers, my boss will not hesitate to sack his foreign workers who marry local girls. This is a good policy as those who have wives in their homeland will have their wives calling the company frequently and it will be a problem for the boss.

 

sometimes, i wonder should we create a funds in sharejunction, and assign 1 TA expert and 1 FA expert to be the fund manager, ha ha.. what a crazy idea huh... singaporegal, i vote you to be TA expert, but then, surely got problems one.. as i heard when people gather together, some want to sell at this price, some don't want, then, end up arguing together... the fund name will be Singapore Dragon funds, yeah...

I'm quite fortunate. I travel and work at few locations for one to two months and back home for two to three weeks. Travelling is very hectic though. By river in speed boat, at times 14 hours at a stretch. By 4-wheel drive off highway, at times 16 hours a day. By light 10 seater twin prop planes 1 to 2 hours. Looking out of these plane windows, its quite common to see engine oil dripping from the plane's engines.

By the grace of God, still alive. The latest report that all Indonesian planes fail safety audit is nothing new.



Paywise OK lah. Similar to what you mentioned between S$140k to S$180k p.a..

lewsh88: u work in jungles 365 days a year? do you have leave to go back spore? assuming you are a man, how do you satisfy your sexual needs? you self service or go find indo chicken?

Pardon for being crude but my question is valid. i hear lotsa stories about sailors onboard ships once they berth at ports is hooha so would like to hear jungle workers lifestyle too :)

 

I note from the recent posts in that the formners in this thread are very mature ppl with interesting lives? I feel proud to be associated in this forum.. In fact  I think too much credit has been given to LKY.. yes he & his group of good man  has set us a new direction .. that brought success? but I think too little has being said about the average Singaporeans who followed them, and have made sacrifices too? in fact I sometimes think that it is the character, hardworking good attitudes of the average Singaporean et al (the ones that get things done, implementers, executives, & supervisors etc ) that made Singapore what it is today, and this DESPITE rather than because of the current Singapore political leadership who only talk and talk (anyway nowadays Long Chon Ee Kong).? and it even getting more evident recently.. that that they spend a lot of time and energy trying to talk/convince us that raising their salaries is worth every $... yak yaka ?yak?

Yah! You must be super rich by now! 26 years earning consultant pay to a conglomerate! How did you survive 26 years in the jungle? You must have nerves of steel and able to withstand such hardship!

26 years!!!! how often do they let u fly back to spore to be reunited with ur family?

here if u work in the mines in the far north of WA,u have to be paid at least A$100k.For tecnical consultant at least A$200k a year.

anyway,money is not the the only thing,u have to consider other thing as well.

I was technical consultant to this Indonesian conglomerate operating logging camps, plywood mills, palm oil & rubber plantations, tile factories and coal mines, till I retire end 2005.

Jobwise OK lah as I report direct to the big boss himself. Nobody kacau me.

 

26 years at Kalimantan jungle, how u survive there? wow.... you must be earning big man... those jungle got tons of money, heee...

No, I'm a third generation singaporean. I spent the last 26 years working in the Kalimantan jungle and I'm almost Indonesian.

As I work among ordinary Indonesians, I live their simple type of life. I eat whatever they eat, except exortic food such as snake meat, dog meat and turtle meat.

Anyone who is interested to know more about how Indonesians think and work, I'll be glad to provide info. In Indonesia anything goes: Bisa Pak, Beres Pak, Bisa diatur.



Most of my foreign colleagues are malaysians working as mechanics and bulldozer operators in the jungle - logging, oil palm plantations, plywood mills and coal mines. I was the only odd Singaporean there.



I did my NS as part time police. During training, the instructor teach us not to pull out our revolver unless we intend to open fire, and if we shoot, make sure we kill the culprit, DEAD MAN TELLS NO TALE.

Very intersting and NS was really fun.

 

well...pls wont learn wan lah...besides they always think they wont be the one hit....haha...so u gotta read these news on/off..hee

 

I have a few friends who drove into JB then kanna car jack in broad daylight. The passer-bys just look on! Dangerous place!

About the cow/grass experiment........perhaps what the scientist thinks is the 'better' grass is not what the cow thinks. Perhaps the cow finds the 'lower quality' grass more tasty? Then again, perhaps the cow is intelligent....rationalising that the grass on her side of the fence is safely hers to eat...so, better eat someonelse's grass first???

Just putting another twist to the interpretation of the experiment.

Having been thru NS myself (in the early days of spore conscription), I agree with you that it is indeed a character building experience. In fact, both my wife and I agreed that if ever we should migrate (or live abroad), we will still send our sons back to serve their NS when they come of age. In fact, many of my friends who are currently living abroad have done the same....i.e. sending their sons back for their NS.

This not only for their character building....but also its the 'right' thing to do.

In my hometown, most people are humble, only those young bratt, graduated from Australian university, and think they are so "good", always drive their dads car to the pub and showing off during the chinese new year especially.. anyway, yeah, JB is really a bit "out of shape" as we can read all the negative stories, sorry to say that..

iPunter, those english weather is good for short stay or travels, I personally hate it if you are going to spend there for years..  yieak... winters , autumn, oh well, it's good to see only la.. hee..

 

I love English weather... chilly cool summers...car-stalling winters...autumn leaves...

But not the muddy sludge after winter!

 

Except for JB, all other M'sian towns are nice. Malacca my favourite - chicken rice balls, grill fish at Umbai, roti canai (prata) at Klebang.

Penang, Ipoh, Kuantan, Muar, K-Trengganu,  all nice also.

Kuching best. World famous Kuching laksa, fresh large "ang-kah" prawn noodle 6km outside town, cook food at Pending, etc....



Make money in Singapore, live in Malaysia. Hey, its double your money there. Life is simple, no stress!!!

Just remember - dress humbly, don't show off, its really very safe there.
