
The Dubai Arbitral Tribunal has issued an award in favour of Banyan Tree in relation to its claim for the wrongful termination of the hotel hgt agreement for The Meydan (HMA) first announced in Nov 2009. The Meydan Group is liable to the sum of US$19.2m as compensatory damages, plus interest at 3% p.a. until fully paid. Separately, the Meydan Group has commenced counter lawsuits in the Dubai Courts against Banyan Tree. Banyan Tree will issue further announcement(s) in the event that there are any material developments in the matter.
BANYAN Tree Holdings Ltd on Tuesday posted a 163 per cent jump in net profit to S$1.7 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2013 from S$644,000 a year ago.
Overall revenue rose by 3 per cent to S$81.7 million from S$79.3 million a year ago.
This was mainly driven by higher revenue from the hotel investments and fee-based segments by S$6.9 million and S$1.5 million respectively, but partially offset by lower revenue from the property sales segment by S$5.9 million.
The hotel investment segment achieved S$46.2 million in revenue this year, up 17 per cent from S$39.3 million last year, thanks to strong contributions from hotels in Thailand and Maldives.

Suprisingly so few sellers above 70cts...could be the start of the long bull due to launching of new anchor resort  hotels and condo in central vietnam and revival of its biz in Thailand....may see it clearing $1 in short term.

Banyan Tree: DBSV notes a strong 1Q13 results with earnings rising 19% to $14m. Sees outlook for hotels and property sales continuing on an upward momentum. Notes forward bookings for hotels improving while new property launches in Phuket are selling like hot cakes. Given its asset heavy balance sheet, the house believes that setting up a REIT (probably from its Thailand properties, coupled with properties from its Indochina and China Funds) can result in the group crystalizing significant value in its balance sheet. Maintains Buy and TP $0.83.

Dispute Regarding Bahrain Hotel Management Agreement
10 March and 8 April 2010,
Banyan Tree Holdings Limited (“BTH” or “Company”) wishes to announce that its
wholly-owned subsidiary, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts Pte. Ltd. (“BTHR”) has
terminated its Hotel Management Agreement (“HMA”) with Al Areen Holding Co.
B.S.C Closed (“Al Areen”) for Banyan Tree Bahrain with effect from 10 April 2010
(“Termination”).
The immediate Termination instead of a two-week period required under the HMA
was the result of Al Areen’s further breaching the HMA by taking over the resort
on 9 April which resulted in the infringements on the brand rights, and inconvenience
and confusion to the guests and associates, travel partners and suppliers. The
Company therefore has no choice but to immediately cease its involvement with the
resort.
