Nov. 12 (Bloomberg) -- China's retail sales rose 22 percent, close to the fastest pace in nine years, signaling that domestic demand may help the fourth-biggest economy through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. ``The big package sent a signal for people to keep shopping,'' said Arthur Kroeber, head of research at Dragonomics Advisory Services Ltd. in Beijing. ``Rising domestic consumption will help to cushion economic growth in the coming months.''

It does not matter whether he stated "noise" or not, it may create fear for a faint-hearted newbie & irrational panic selling without finding out first whether it is a fact, which I think is evil & most likely with ulterior motive.

We should rightfully refrain from posting "noise" nor "rumour", be it stated or not.

richtan, andrew did say they are noise/rumours in his last statement, of course ta/fa   r  high probabilities  n  factual respectively and perhaps, at tis point in time, news out of any country on any issue/matter [ which wud surely affect markets, 4 better or worse] wud definitely assist us to gauge whether sti wud or wud not test 1,200 and if going to, then we can prepare ourselves for it but if not going to, then we individually take whatever actions which we think suit us individually............cheers!

I would appreciate if u can kindly refrain from posting such thing as "noise" or "rumours", no value-added, degrading the forum heree and instead post facts, FA & TA. U must have ulterior motive, hoping to scare & talk down the market, unfortunately the mkt is to big & it is a futile effort.

Heard some noise a few days back that there will be a major correction worldwide again. According to the noise, starting this Friday (The usual correction window) to next week.

The reason, too many companies are failing in US.  GM, owe simply too much debt and so huge it will takes hundreds of years to repay.  So Chapter 11 is the answer.

Circuit City : Loan application is very very tight in US, both companies are labour instensive industry.  A lot of restsuants closed shop.

More pple will be out of jobs

Let see how these noise are true......

Our blind STI again following the blind & sickly DOW & European Futures.

Just wonder when will STI wake up & stop following the "pipe-piper" to slaughter house & follow the true leader, which is China, now the saviour doing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to the dying & gasping DOW & European mkt.

Remember, US & Europe are now in their deep-shit hole waiting for China to rescue them & had lost their leadership & taken over by China.

WAKE_UP STI !! Stop following the pipe-piper to the slaughter house & instead follow the right mkt leader plse, for heavens sake!!

Oops, typo error, should a a sick & dying DOW lying in a coffin & waiting for  mouth to mouth resuscitation from China

richtan      ( Date: 10-Nov-2008 12:27) Posted:

I forsee the future when STI track China index & not DOW as China is the undisputed market leader now with huge foreign reserves whereas US is now no longer the mkt leader (their leadership is now history & taken over by China) & now looking towards China to dig them out of their deep-shit hole created by their arrogance & unsinkable mentality (history repeats itself just as in Titanic, the once thoght unsinkable ship) whereas China are more conservative by Chinese Confucianism culture which is a good thing as it is now no longer a poor country but now richer than US.

Loking for the day when there is a China future index & STI track China index instead of tracking a sick & dying DOQ lying in a coffin..

Some S-chip counter will have some play, as the China government spending will boost the revenue of these companies as they are doing china domestic sales and not so much on export to US. Wait for the investors and analysts to digest the figures of china domestic spendng, can buy on dips.

Jst wondering where we still following the DOW when US is a debtor country.

We should be watching China instead as she is the cash rich country now with foreign reserves & help pull the poor ang mohs out of their deep shit hole,

Probably there should be a China future index tat we can follow as China should be the leader now man.

Alligator      ( Date: 06-Nov-2008 11:29) Posted:

richtan, i think jj refers to BDI, Baltic Dry Index, the meanings can be found in wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Dry_Index

some information are copied from wikipedia here to help reading

How it works

The index is made up of an average of the Baltic Supramax, Panamax, and Capesize indices. These indices are based on professional assessments made by a panel of international shipbroking companies. The index can be accessed on a subscription basis directly from the Baltic Exchange as well as from major financial information and news services such as Thomson Financial Datastream, Reuters and Bloomberg L.P..

Most directly, the index measures the demand for shipping capacity versus the supply of dry bulk carriers. The demand for shipping varies with the amount of cargo that is being traded or moved in various markets (supply and demand). The supply of ships (cargo transports) is much less elastic than the demand for them, so the index indirectly measures global supply and demand for the commodities shipped aboard dry bulk carriers, such as building materials, coal, crude oil, metallic ores, and grains.

Because dry bulk primarily consists of materials that function as raw material inputs to the production of intermediate or finished goods, such as concrete, electricity, steel, and food, the index is also seen as an efficient economic indicator of future economic growth and production. The BDI is termed a leading economic indicator because it predicts future economic activity.[2]

hi richtan,

DCA = dollar cost average/averaging. it's a method of putting in your funds in separate portions into the market, so you can average up or down your buy price. a lot of insurance planners and financial advisors will tell you to do this: put aside a fixed sum of money monthly, and go in no matter what the market is, so that over the years, your cost price is low.

To me, that's right principle, wrong application.

eg, imagine if you DCA cosco from its peak monthly from 8.2 to now. the only thing you'd be facing is a certain scenario known as *moths fly out of wallet*.

For one thing, DCA is mainly for longterm investors (think 5 year horizon or more). For another, you really need to choose your counters well. For a third, it isn't just blindly putting in your money every month: the proper way to DCA is via technicals.

Those wanting to apply it on CD/XD plays need to be careful too: i have to stress here that not all counters will go back up to their CD levels. Some just fade away.

cheers!
