Like any other tool, the usefulness of a stop-loss is only as good as the one who uses it.     This is because, in the hands of an inept or inexperienced person, it can result in big losses too.           Since market whipsaws can easily knock the daylights out of even an expert trader,                 it is not such an easy thing to beat the market...  ![]() |

In that sense, a trailing stop order  is the best feature to help nab  a profitable exit. Guaranteed stop loss  order is another feature  to protect  one's capital  from gap down in the event of  negative company  news or sudden world events.  Usually one has to pay additional for using advanced orders per trade, but it helps to manage downside risks. So why not?  Guaranteed stop loss is available at  selective brokerages  for trading US market to my knowledge and  not on sgx.

Will the Bull or the Bear win? Normally after Budget Day, share prices will go up (A-gong giving money is a good news). But with so many bad news around (Bahrain crashes, China reserve rate, oil px shoot up), it's getting harder to second guess. The only comfort to take is Dow shrug off the bad news to close multi-year high.

haha i mean, im using poems to trade now. it can only set a TP (be it lower or higher than ur buy price). I cant set a price to cut loss, a target price that i will want to sell for profit or a highest target price.    Is there any other platform that will allow me to enjoy such benefit?

Since we can't set so many prices (TP, Stop Loss, Profit Price) with POEMS ONLINE, what other programs can we utilize? | ||||

my friends who trade in US dont really monitor real time.. they do their research and set everything (cut loss, tp, and even a price which u would sell to secure profit, for example if u buy at 1.00 and ur target price is 1.50 and the current price is 1.40, u can set a price at 1.30 and the system will sell it away when it drops to 1.30 so that u still earn 30 cents).. so normally they place their orders then only check after they got up from bed.

the main reason i queued for gar was because it dropped all the way from 715 on monday to 650 yesterday so i expect a technical rebound on monday.. but yea.. holding a position over the weekend is risky because of china's style... tat's y i queued at 650 instead of chasing 655.. leave it to the god to decide whether i should or shouldnt get it.. :)

Too much of the same old 'trick' may not have the intended efffect any more...     Until a time when maybe the market may even do a surprise " chiong"           upon announcement of any further market cooling or restrictive measures.                   Maybe, maybe not... just a thought... ![]()

Wa, Gaecia very good...     Now she can get 1000  merit points (one kilo-smiles) from me.         But actually I am nobody... so she should be the one               giving me merit points for giving her merit points.                   But jokes aside, I truly respect her for her goodly store of knowledge.                           I would say, she is one who has 'fought in the trenches' (very experienced)... ![]() |

Yea i said before, Nyse is one very fast ticker & every 1-2 seconds' screen flash can  mean  a difference of bid spread  between usd10-25 for those  few  hundred bucks  stock per share. It is  not easy to  'manually' day trade actively, can go blur and cause human error  quite easily  in the wee hours of the morning our local time.  Aura, try using pre-programmed trigger orders like contingent orders might help somewhat. Best is, do your own customised programmed tradescreens,  you can use that  on ie.  e-mini futures and  forex too. I don't know how those US veteran  traders do it but  you've computer engineering background, it could be easy for  you.  Still, one is up against the high frequency trading houses & black pools. So all is, risky betting. hehehe

Pardon me ep, i dumped it  right away  at 9.57  when  market reopened  frm  lunch break today. Just my automatic reaction  when i saw the opening  gap down at 1.59pm. It was never  my plan to hold on  and ride down an  (imaginary)  big red candle at that point in time.

Another reason why not to hold a position on a Friday, besides knowing most traders take profit on Fridays. China loves to make announcements on Fridays and Saturdays. Expect more announcements from China soon.
