You are right...      it is important to play both side of the market.... play long and play short .....         at the same time, it is difficult to play both sides....                 like you say it so easy , "   if one has shorted... " but your key word is " IF" ,  you know.......

You are right...     Even the best stocks fall when it's time to fall...           But if instead of averaging down (buy more), if one has                 shorted, and then let their profits run all the way down,                         one would have been jumping up and down in glee.                                   Thus it is important to play both side of the market....

compare to those 6 mths ago may who still hold x-lots of singtel (4.00+), sph (4.00+), capland(4.00+), wilmar(6.00+),,,, and also averaged down these stocks, somemore with even huge capital loss,,,,, informatics took 3/4yrs in 2006 from 3-6cents to  22cents in July 2010 and now around 10cents today... no matter what, don't be so sad lah unless  one put all eggs in one basket...just some words of encouragement...stay positive

Conventional cut loss behaviours easily get in trap, and hardly recovered, ( ask your own experiences, if you do not believe me ), somehow, someway, by doing cut loss, you are fulfilling the traped plan requirement by other side of market players' trap set up! Bear in mind, bear in mind to this scenario please.

Newbies must never never regard     a loss as 'only a paper loss'.         A loss is real, it is stated in your account.               After you bought a stock and it goes down,             you have already lost money. It is immaterial                             whether you think you will make it back or not.                                 And if you have lost 50%, you will need to make 100%                                         just to break even.  This is the reason why it is so                                                 important to control the losses...                                    |

Hulumas, think of this stragety:- Sometimes it's good to cut loss becos when the stock goes lower, then you can buy again. Many ppl think that paper loss is ok as long as I don't sell. A loss is a loss. Imagine holding all the paper loss stock in your portfolio.  Isn't it very heavy.

This is where you are mistaken...   Cutting-loss is a sophicticated tool used by         all the best traders all over the world over.               They all respect trend... Hence, the saying :-                   " Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered...

I don't normally want to predict how much prices can drop but I really do not have  good feeling about this counter. It has all the makings of a padding-up operation without much substance. Stock-consolidation, fund raising, all kinds of announcements about new businesses, first in China and now in Malaysia. All very PR to me. I take a leaf from old school Asian businessmen. Make money, don't have to make much noise. Otherwise attract unwarrented attention to oneself. For management o keep coming up with all these news, it smells like desparately trying to keep price of shares up. And it's not working. What next ?

nobody can tell how low a stock can go....everyone has his/her own strategy and everyone's portfolio also suffer paper loss  one way or another, big or small.....it's a question of ratio of CASH at hand vs overall. as someone pointed out,  many stock price can be depressed further simply because of few lots or few transactions done. some may think there is no hope anymore, so  they sell away at a loss, its perfectly OK. but don't think CEO Chew Hua Seng is going to be beaten flat,  lying down without a fight.... for others who think there is further developments in future, they will hold or even buy more.....  one example to  look at informatics in 2006/7  and in July 2010.... so long as  one is comfortable with one's way, and be prepared for anything that  can happen, good or bad. |

Never cut loss is my buying strategy. Cut loss orientated is dominant in SGX market here. Because all the retail market players here are popular with " KIASU" behaviours. That is why once I buy, I keep buying!

In theory we set a cut loss figure but in practice sometime it is very difficult to do.

I'm also asking the same question. I guess many people don't consider Educational Stocks as profitable and attractive as other sectors. This surely will worth something, just not as high as other more popular stocks.
