x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	If you understand the Indon politics you will know how difficult the projects undertaken by Uni. If you purely go by the economics of the project then what they have done would be good enough. But what's happening now is the politics of things. Even our MM found it difficult to deal with them what more about a small company! Of course Uni can fly once in a while but fundamentally it is weighed down. It cannot be a Wilmar. Just look at IndoAgri - suffer from same problem. Moreover the counter also will face environmental issues and opposition. Too many obstacles.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	888max, no doubt Indonesia is a significant supplier for timber, but they are burning down trees to make way for palm trees for the palm oil. Would this is any way have any impact on this counter? There must be a reason why it ain't moving or making any headway. Fully acknowledge all the research that you have put into this counter.

Timber has a low correlation with other asset classes and hasn?t been affected by the stockmarket downturn, says David Budworth in The Sunday Times. ?The trees have never heard of the Nasdaq bubble? and they don?t know what a War on Terror is,? says Steve Sjuggerud on Dailywealth.com. Rising demand should be underpinned by China?s booming economy, keeping prices robust. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation predicts world consumption of industrial roundwood will rise 60% over the next 25 years. The newcomers join longstanding fan Jeremy Grantham, chairman of investment firm GMO. A persistent ?stockmarket Cassandra?, he recently said that timber remains his favourite asset class and he forecasts it will be top performer over the next seven years. According to Grantham, over the past century the price of wood has averaged an annual increase of 6%. Stumpage prices ? the value of all wood on the stump ? has outpaced inflation by 3% a year. British investors may regard forestry as an exotic investment, but it is fast becoming mainstream in the US, says Budworth. For example, Harvard University plans to earmark 10% of its $26bn investment fund to timber. The two biggest US timber producers, Rayonier (RYN, $38.45) and Plum Creek Timber (PCL, $35.87), have proved very popular with investors in recent years, managing double and triple-digit stock-price gains in the post-dotcom boom era, against a decline for the S&P 500.

"PT Mangium Anugerah Lestari ("PT MAL"), a wholly owned Indonesian subsidiary of the Group, was established for the manufacturing and trading of wood chips. PT MAL's wood chip mill, constructed by China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corporation ("CMEC") on a turnkey basis, has started commercial operation in late February 2007. The total development cost of the mill is approximately US$45 million. Production will be increased in 2007 to reach full capacity before year end. PT MAL expects to produce approximately 490,000 tonnes of wood chips during the mill's first twelve months of commercial operation. This represents 70% of PT MAL's annual production capacity of 700,000 tonnes of wood chips. The wood chips will be sold mainly to markets in Asia and this is expected to make a significant contribution to the Group's revenue in 2007. PT MAL mainly sources its woods from local forest plantations."

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Hi Novicetrader, Will take a look at HG Metals after I've settled with my Unifiber. Some said UFS is a concept stock with no fundamental. I've have provided facts , figures and news here openly for all to read and study. 2 hedge funds took a huge stakes in UFS, if that is NOT a sign of confidents in UFS, I also dunno what to say?? Don't tell me that they paid UFS 'paper money' only ??? Concepts money ??? Maybe those  'small timer' retail investors NEVER heard of this big US corp Morgan Stanley name.   I always believe that when ones invest in any company stock,  is all about buying at undervalue price and wait paitently to grow. If anyone who setup a registered company today, are you going to tell youself that if 6 months later, the company didn't make money for you, you will just sell way and setup another business. 'Time' is a good test for those good fundamental stocks but bad for those rotton ones. I only asked for aug, which is next month, to prove my case. Already you see sign of ppls getting fustration with this stock and throw in the towel.

HG Metals, whereby it is either not moving, or moving up very slowly, or sideways, but can weather any storm or tsunami that comes along. BUT the market nowdays is so volatile, and everybody is looking at making a quick buck. Fundamentals are import, so are sentimental. So the speculative stocks are the ones that are really moving and those that the BBs are playing on are sky rocketing. Afterall the name of the game is to make money, and make it fast. Unifiber and HG Metals, like Labroy all are good stocks, not speculative, but for mid to long term investments, one which when shoots up will never return to the previous price levels. I bought Labroy at $0.50, hel on for years. Let go at $1.00, 100% profit margin, guess what is the price today? So it all depends on whether you are speculating or investing. My 2 cents worth.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	United Fiber to sell bonds to Morgan-affiliated fund （2007-07-17） (JAKARTA) United Fiber System Ltd, a Singapore-based forestry company, said a hedge fund affiliate of Morgan Stanley has agreed to buy US$200 million of bonds and warrants, which will help the company build a pulp mill first planned in 2002. United Fiber on July13 also agreed to sell US$25 million of bonds convertible into shares to the hedge fund, Hong Kong-based Abax Global Capital Ltd. After the securities are converted into shares, Abax Global will own 4.4 per cent of United Fiber, the company said. Morgan Stanley owns a minority stake in Abax. The proceeds may help United Fiber build the US$1 billion pulp mill in the Indonesian part of Borneo by 2010, eight years after it was planned. United Fiber had to delay constructing the plant because of a government move to cancel the company's right to use forest area for timber, and lack of funding. The Supreme Court stopped the government from cancelling the right in 2005. 'We are making sure that we get financing for our pulp mill,' United Fiber's finance director Choo Lye Heng said in an interview from Singapore on July13. 'This makes us very committed to raising funds for the mill.' United Fiber expects the construction to start by the end of the year, Mr Choo said. China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corp, which is building the plant, will fund 80 per cent of the mill. The pulp mill, which will be run by United Fiber's subsidiary PT Marga Buana Bumi Mulia, will have a capacity to produce 600,000 tonnes of bleached hardwood kraft pulp annually. United Fiber will sell the pulp produced in the Kalimantan mill to CellMark AB, the world's biggest pulp trading company, and China National Machinery, Mr Choo said. About 10 per cent of the production will be sold in Indonesia. United Fiber and Abax are negotiating the terms of the bonds and warrants, the two companies said in a statement on July13. Lazard Asia Ltd is advising United Fiber. -- Bloomberg

Here is what I think: We've 2 ang mo hedgefunds who had both on 2 occasions, done a due diligence on UFS just BEFORE its half year reporting this coming aug. Their top ang mo accountants must have been very satisfacted with the 'NUMBERS' . That's why they willing to risks their VIP clients money into UFS investments. So sit tight and enjoy the later part of the show in aug.
