Good to be living here for security sake, safe place, the food and extended family, but stressful lifestyle. Nowhere is perfect. There's always pros and cons. Have not been to Bhutan, the happiest place on Earth. Would love to though! |

Ya, writing tons of reports with high sounding missions, visions, SEMs, SOPs, and etc, then losing business (in Abu Dhabi) to the Ang Mos who wrote only 2 pgs of report. The Ang Mos took 1 night and Singahmen bodies took 1 week. |

We are the only countries who encourage senior citizens to stay working. They have slog all their life. For Gods sake, give them a brake!

Ok hot girls and cool guys ... hang in there ... the best is yet to be ! : ) |

Yes, to be borned and live here in Singapore is a blessing compared to many countries. The current inflation rate we are facing just squeezed us a bit tighter, but life still goes on, and we make some adjustments along the way. We can live by it, no problem. Like I said, the poorer poor is the group who really suffer in real terms.

" increase productivity to fight inflation "..... we are fortunate .. we have to pump ourselves harder .... we have to squeeze ourselves harder ... we have to strech ourselves longer .... we have to mine ourselves deeper ..... we are the blessed ones .... hahaha ! ---------------- 6. We are admittedly more fortunate than many other countries. When costs are rising and manufactured exports are shrinking, our commodities have come to our aid. Our export earnings from petroleum and gas, palm oil, rubber and tin have increased many times over. 7. The rise in the price of petrol and products has begun to affect our lives, our living standards and our complacency. 8. We produce about 650,000 barrels a day, consume 400,000 and export roughly 250,000 barrels. We used to earn 30 US Dollar per barrel; today we earn 140 US Dollar, almost all profit. Work out the revenue from 250,000 barrels per day for one year. 9. Besides, we produce 900,000 barrels equivalent of gas, mostly exported. There is no need to take notice of the petrol we produce in Sudan and elsewhere, all selling at 100 US Dollar plus. 10. But we also earn more, much more from palm oil. It used to cost us RM600 per ton to produce. It must be slightly more now. But one ton of palm oil used to sell for RM800 before. Now it sells for more than RM3,000. The palm oil plantation companies are laughing all the way to the bank. 11. But the prices of rubber and even tin have also increased tremendously. 12. For the Government it must mean a great increase in revenue. The profits from petroleum accrue 100% to the Government. I believe in 2006 when oil price was about 70 US Dollar Petronas made a profit before tax of 60 billion Ringgit. 13. Whereas the tax on corporate incomes of the manufacturing companies is minimal, corporate tax revenue from companies producing and exporting palm oil, rubber and tin is very high. If we care to look at the profits of companies today many make well over a billion a year, some more than three billion. http://test.chedet.com/che_det/2008/07/malaysia-and-a-world-in-turmoi.html ---------------- |

Kindergarten fees going up, and not to mention most educational fees went up, and still going up. I don't blame hawkers and vendors who upped their prices, simply because they rely on the increase to have a better standard of life compared to people who are salaried and get their annual increment yearly. Everybody wants a better life, and so the snowballing. Not denying the fact that the rich are getting richer, and with current market sentiments, the poor suffers. the rich will see their wealth multiply over the years. This is a very very realistic world. Just take a look at those Meet the people sessions and you see the numbers seeking help multiply. I don't worry for this group of people. I worry for those who don't know where to go to seek assistance, and suffer in silence. |

Like, Dow Jones, STI, HSI? They've been, like, consolidating for eons man! Muahahahahahah! But on a more serious note - in the light of all these price rises, I wonder how 'watertight' those local public assistance schemes are; I mean, people can donate all they want to those welfare organisations, govt can set up assistance funds, but at the end of the day, what is the fate of the destitute in S'pore who have to cope with all the chionging 'inflation' if they simply have no means to reach out for it? |

hehe, cwquah, as we like to say in s'pore: "confirm, plus guarantee." :P and you can be sure they'll trot out the usual statistics, about how singapore is a first world city, but compared to other countries like london etcetc, our public transport is dirt cheap! hence the people should be grateful. blah blah blah. nevermind that they always neglect to mention how, if you count it via annual wages, our transport costs probably take up more than the average londoner. ie, the average londoner earns much more than the average s'porean, so how can you say that our transport costs are cheaper compared to them? it should be relative. besides, earn in GBP, spend in GBP. Earn in S$, spend in S$: it's always been kinda ludicrous to me, how we convert the figures back to our own currency and hence, US/UK/whatever are more expensive. wail. well. electricity, water, ERP, petrol, food, and now public transport has gone up. What else is there left to go up? |

oh sorry again ah. I am chinese edn. often use chinese proberb. answer your queries: 1. in chinese means that when you talk or sing, you hv internal strength in speaking, speak loud and clear. 2. RSM in SAF contact means Regimental Sergant Major, it is an appointment top the non commissoned officer corp in a camp. He conduct monthly parades, he governs the well being of the other ranks in the unit camp. He also advise the well behavior of officers in the same unit. 3. Before 2000, eclectronic technical vocations in the SAF were the highly paid vocation. grade 75 is the higheiest pay grade for the non commisioned officer. So far only hv 9 such grades in Army. Max for combat voc was only grade 65. In Army, u ought to be the minimum few, 3 per yr, to be promoted to that grade. however, due to the restructure of the SAF non commissioned officer cohort, the so-called Grade's division had been demolished. Only Ranks is looked into across all vocations. basically to take care of those combat solders as they don't hv market values onces they retired. As for electronics voc likes us, there is still marker value when we retired. a typical well know RSM in SAF history were Tiger Hong and Samsudin. Most of SJ elder forumers know these two guys.

I get the feeling that they'll raise the ERPs faster and faster, and maybe raise public transport charges at a slightly slower rate - and then say, public transport is more affordable. Well... Hobson's choice. So much for helping with costs of living.

5. Talking about transport, I think people should know of a bus company in Kuala Lumpur which charges 9 cents (nine cents) per passenger between Kuala Lumpur and the Low Cost Terminal in KLIA. And it is making profit from this operation. Maybe other bus companies can learn something. http://test.chedet.com/che_det/2008/07/snippets-birthday-road-transpo.html#more |

Cut down the petrol tax so that price will stabilise at $2. The tax was introduced when petrol was very cheap. Now it is a different story. Why make so many pple suffer ? Testing pple's patient ? It is high time they do something, not excuses to cut down usage. Transport is a neccessity, not a luxury.

i wanna kb about our gahmen again. latest news in: public transport fare hikes to come in october. with the government "encouraging people to take public transport (in view of the ERP protests etc)" and "trying to make it affordable for the public." I have a question: if the real aim is to reduce traffic on roads, why not do the simplest thing: which is to limit each household to one, max two cars. And like HK, to reduce the costs of public transport, so as to encourage more ppl to take it. But they'd never limit each household. why? because then, the rich are penalised. And we're not the kind of country who ever penalises the rich. besides, more cars = more revenue. like in TA. see what they do, not what they say. bwah! |
