Interesting 8's. Double edged sword. Can be good as well as bad? Like that very difficult leh. Must determine the right numbers for our house number, car number, birth number etc. Very difficult leh... I've seen car numbers with 4444. He looks very blessed, looks like a big Mercs. However, my neighbour's address is 444 and always kena chased by loan shark! What a coincidence, that is life man.... |

(this appears to be a little bit of hindsight wisdom...anyway, it's just for fun) adding to the 24 yee-sei, in fact the opening is 080808 0808 (taking into 8:08 opening ceremony time), that's 5 x8s which sounds like cantonese hmm fa, will not huat? I have also read that the 2 major events that happened and aroused the interest of outside world this year. Firstly, it's 3-14 shijian (March 14) when violence broke out in Lhasa, Tibet (3+1+4 =8). This event triggered subsequent sabotage / demonstrations as the Olympic torch passed through international route. (I am against the sabotage on Olympic torch btw) Second event was the 5-12 Sichuan Earthquake. This one needs no further elaboration. Here, 5+1+2 =8 also. Pure coincidence.?? Whatever, I am still eagerly looking forward to the opening ceremony at 0808080808 tomorrow. Partly because of Olympic opening, the national day speech is brought forward to 7:30pm tomorrow night. LOL.

u PUT your right foot in , u PUT ur right foot out, PUT.. PUT ...PUT.. do the hokey pokey ... tats wat its all abt! Stocks in Europe, Asia Decline; U.S. Index Futures Retreat By Sarah Thompson Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Stocks fell in Europe and Asia and U.S. index futures dropped, led by financial firms, after Allianz SE scrapped its profit growth forecast and American International Group Inc. posted a bigger loss than analysts estimated. Allianz retreated after Europe's biggest insurer said second- quarter profit tumbled 29 percent. AIG, the world's largest insurer, dropped in Germany after reporting a $5.36 billion loss. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. slumped for a second day after raising bad-loan provisions. Dexia SA, the world's largest lender to local governments, tumbled on plans to add $300 million to its U.S. bond insurance unit after the division posted a second-quarter loss. The MSCI World Index lost 0.2 percent to 1,366.7 at 8:05 a.m. in London as eight of 10 industry groups decreased. Futures on the Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 0.4 percent. Europe's Dow Jones Stoxx 600 Index declined 0.6 percent, while the MSCI Asia Pacific Index slumped 0.9 percent. ``AIG's massive losses has shattered the market's confidence,'' said Oliver Stevens, head of dealing at IG Markets in Melbourne. Investors will also be watching interest-rate decisions today from the Bank of England and the European Central Bank. Economists predict both banks will keep rates unchanged. The Bank of England announces its decision at noon in London, while the Frankfurt-based ECB, which increased borrowing costs last month, publishes at 1:45 p.m. local time. Credit Losses The Stoxx 600 has lost 21 percent this year as record oil, accelerating inflation and credit losses nearing $500 billion worldwide slow economic growth and prompted analysts to cut earnings estimates. Profits at Stoxx 600 companies may drop 2.5 percent on average in 2008, according to projections tracked by Bloomberg. That's down from a forecast for 11 percent growth in January. All 23 countries in the MSCI World except Canada have entered bear markets since September. A bear market is commonly defined as a drop of 20 percent from a peak. Allianz slid 3.6 percent to 108.89 euros. Europe's biggest insurer abandoned its earnings growth forecast after losses at Dresdner Bank led to a 29 percent drop in second-quarter profit. Allianz expects markets to remain difficult through 2009 and its target for 10 percent compound annual growth in operaing earnings ``cannot be maintained,'' the Munich-based insurer said in a statement yesterday. AIG, Mitsubishi UFJ AIG, the world's biggest insurer, reported a worse-than- estimated loss after housing-related writedowns wiped out profit for a third straight quarter, renewing concern that the company may need more capital. AIG lost $2.09, or 7.2 percent, to $27 in Germany. Mitsubishi UFJ declined 3.9 percent to 869 yen, the lowest level since March 31. Japan's biggest publicly traded bank Aug. 5 reported a 66 percent slump in net income for the first quarter. Dexia fell 7.7 percent to 9.25 euros. The company plans to add funds to its U.S. bond insurance unit and stop selling coverage for asset-backed debt after the division posted a second-quarter loss. The capital will allow the unit, Financial Security Assurance Inc., to exceed requirements for a AAA credit rating, New York-based FSA said. Dexia said its second-quarter net income fell 32 percent to million euros when losses at FSA are included. Liberty International Plc lost 2.7 percent to 876 pence after the U.K.'s largest shopping-centre owner was downgraded to ``sell'' from ``hold'' at Deutsche Bank AG because of second- quarter write-offs and economic deceleration. Axa Axa SA rose 5.1 percent to 21.41 euros. Europe's second- biggest insurer said first-half profit declined 32 percent to 2.16 billion euros after falling stock markets curbed sales of savings plans and on writedowns of investments. Analysts projected earnings at 1.93 billion euros in a Bloomberg survey. Hammerson Plc dropped 2 percent to 969.5 pence. The U.K. owner of Birmingham's Bullring and London's Brent Cross shopping centers posted a loss in the first half as the value of its offices and malls declined. |

KLSE may not have any effect on the STI, but political events do have some effects in one way or another on our Index. Just my view only and any form of friendly exchanges are welcome! BTW 08-08-08 if taken in total sum is bad in cantonese which means "easy death" :) Cheers! |

I don't think KLSE has much weight/influence on STI anymore...since a long time ago. Personal opinion, no one needs to agree or disagree. | ||

HSI lost strength fr 429 now only gains around half of the morning ground. may be there not much players today, as most of the local people are doing their housekeeping, after yesd typhoon. Japan announcing the country about to go into recession, also added pressure to HK. 2morow is 888, but SHI half dead when market opens. Henceforth, no push for STI to climb higher liao. Heng if it could remain at 2850 or higher by end of the day. Forget about our NDP rally liao, likewise big brass speech, I think, would not bring in anything for the market as well. lastlly DJ market delinquency also gives Asian no confidence of its current uptrend sustainability. |
