Nike used to be the epitome of cool in the sporting world. But not anymore, if you listen to Herbert Hainer, chairman and chief executive of its biggest rival adidas. Herbert said," When you go out, you see adidas everywhere, and not just for performance products. The young people say they like our products. The brand is absolutely cool.
There was a time when adidas was seen as less hip than Nike. Adidas strength was ironically its weakness. They focussed so much on the quality of their products but did not give much attention to the design and look. Through a lot of market research and finding out what consumers wanted, adidas developed a strategy and it had worked. In July 2005, adidas was honoured as the "red dot : design team of the year" for the course it has taken in recent years. So if Nike says "Just Do It", adidas counter is "Impossible Is Nothing."
Herbert said,"It shows two things : when you work closely with the athletes, you can improve the product. The second point is that when you are convinced about something you have to go for it even if you are not successful in the first strike. This is mirrored in the spirit of the company - listening, testing, modifying and then making the product better.
Hopefully the second point can inspire you to greater heights for the new year in 2007. Yes, my favourite brand is adidas because with Adidas, Impossible Is Nothing................
