Hi, not really into semicond industry, but for listed microchip test firms like UTAC, Statschipac and Global test, (if i'm not wrong), any product differentiation or do they all serve the same customers? how are their individual market share? seems like Statschipac and UTAC are posting good Q3 results leading into the year end rally... |

3Q06 Results of UTAC are out. Largely in line with expectation. CIMB expected 3Q net profit to increase by 69% yoy. Looks like the results are unlikely to move share price.
"SINGAPORE - Microchip testing firm United Test & Assembly Centre said on Thursday its quarterly earnings rose 63 per cent as sales nearly doubled. The Singapore-based firm reported net profit of US$17.15 million for the three months to September 30, compared with US$10.5 million a year ago. Sales rose 92 per cent to US$162 million for the quarter. - BT" |

Hi jackjames, Different people have different opinions to the way they invest. I look at averaging up as being a positive move especially so if you are quite sure price will continue to go north. This is so as your profits are already locked in albeit smaller returns should it drop. You also have some space to maneuver and cut loss if the latter occurs. Just my thoughts. No inducement to trade. Cheers. |

Hi, jackjames, Yes, UTAC is scheduled to announce 3Q results on 26 Oct. CIMB expects 69% increase yoy. CIMB said contributions from NSEB acquisition, DRAM rebound and SiTel ramp were drivers for 3Q earnings. However, they expected revenue to come in at the low end of guidance. For infor, please. |

Citigroup said it has raised its target price to $0.85 from $0.84, while keeping a "hold" call. "Our target price of $0.85 is now based on 1-1.5x P/B value for June 2007 (earnings estimates) vs December 2006," it said. Citigroup raised concerns over UTAC's aggressive capital expenditure program, which was raised to US$350m from US$180m, saying this may result in higher depreciation and interest expenses. "UTAC is executing well (and) gaining market share in MSLP business but its ability to balance profitability and capacity expansion remains a critical benchmark for us," it said. It said UTAC's capex to sales ratio at 62% was far higher than those of its regional peers. Despite higher sales expectations in the second half with the anticipated contribution from NSEB, the brokerage is keeping its US$74m full-year net profit forecast for UTAC and has also cut its margin assumption for the firm by 220 basis points. |

BNP Paribas said it has reinitiated coverage with a "buy" recommendation and a target price of $0.96. It said the rating and target price take into consideration UTAC's weak third quarter performance and its undemanding valuations at present. "We expect sequential growth to resume in the fourth quarter on continued DRAM strength and MSLP (mixed signal logic processes) recovery," BNP Paribas analyst Bryan Yeong said in a note. The price cuts effected by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, which helped increase PC demand, and the impending launch of Microsoft's new Vista operating system early next year bode well for the DRAM sector, the brokerage said. Yeong said he has a positive long-term view on UTAC's MSLP business "as it is strategically positioned in most of the high-growth segments such as 3G, Bluetooth, 802.11n, broadband and digital TV." In addition, he said contributions from NS Electronics Bangkok (NSEB) and new customers should provide a further lift to UTAC's earnings. UTAC completed the acquisition of NSEB in June this year. BNP expects NSEB, now renamed UTAC Thailand Ltd (UTL), to chip in about US$4-5m to the group's net profit in the second half of the year. "We believe the impact will be more pronounced in 2007 as UTAC begins cross-selling UTL's services to its customers and vice versa," Yeong said. |

It plans to issue an offshore bond worth about US$250m and has mandated Citigroup to handle the debt sale, a market source said on Friday. The deal was likely to carry a maturity of seven years, the source said. It will be the second dollar bond issue from a Singapore high-tech firm this year. CSM sold US$300m in seven-year bonds in March through Goldman Sachs. |

ABN-AMRO says it has lowered its rating to "hold" from "buy" and reduced its target price to $0.77 from $1.05 because it expects the company's third-quarter earnings to be weaker than it previously thought. "We now expect UTAC to show qoq net profit growth of 6% for the third quarter, compared to our previous estimate of 35%. This is due to the weaker performances of several communications customers," ABN-AMRO said in a recent note to clients. The brokerage said that with UTAC's expansion plans there were more downside risks to earnings in the event of a downturn in the semiconductor industry. "With the acquisition of NS Electronics Bangkok and the opening of a second facility in Singapore, management is embarking on the next phase of growth. We believe management's track record indicates it will manage its expansion and acquisitions well. However, having more capacity exposes the company to more earnings risks," ABN-AMRO said. |

Another plus for growth will be the newly acquired Thailand unit. Production capacity has been expanded and more orders have been secured. It will move the testing of automotive products to the Thai unit as Thailand is an automotive hub. |
