STI to cross 3000 boosted by long-term investors

STI is in middle of 2 key historic levels ie 2130-2160 and 2350-2400 as players weigh the risk of test of the former or return to recent highs. The current 2240-2280 trading band itself is another key historic level, providing support. Turnovers have been much reduced in the past week or so as the index pulled back 188 points or 7.8% from 2425 to 2237 low at yesterday’s close, at the higher end of the 3.7% to 8.3% pullbacks seen soon after

If today support level maintain, can we see more positive next week? Property sector more cautious of the rising interest rates whereas the oil sensitive counters are cautious of tussle of oil surging up or down. There is saying that huge fund is ready to buy into oil to hedge against the falling dollars and inflation but on the other hand, from business week - Opec leader like Saudi Oil minister have been effective convincing the market that oil shld be $75 to $85 per barrel. They argue that it's the right level to give the oil industry an incentive to invest in projects while not strangling a potential economic recovery. But, some Opec's senior officers believe price closer to $50 is more realistic to look at for this year. Despite the differences, the money managers look set to invest in the oil..... If oil shoot up, will gold follow suit? |

For my own tech indicator system, when STI started to break below 2351, that was the hint already. Review how the STI moved last 2 weeks. U'll see 2 tests of 2424, one test of 2417, and a few days where the dumping was very heavy (intraday high to low way above average move of 35pts). So far, still see no end to the selling yet. No need to rush in to go long. To me it still seems to be a sell on the rally unless I see higher high, higher low formation coming back. Anyway for those on the long side, keep a close watch on 2200, 2095, 1960 supports. If not, just manage your existing shortterm long positions very very carefully, cut if need be and preserve profit. Don't anyhow whack long on margin.
