hi, bon, i don't know why u r so fierce. Everybody has their own philosophy of trading, and my philosophy is trend. I identify trend by technical analysis. A lot of people think TA predict the price. That is actually wrong. TA never predict, but rather BET. It bet for chance. When some certain signal occur, the chance that price will go up is much higher than the chance that the price go down. The underlining philosophy for TA is that human nature never changes. 2000 years ago, people were greedy, were fair of lossing money; 2000 years later, people will still be greedy, still be fair of losing money. The point is that everybody should has their own philosophy of trading and believe it, and have faith on it. 

With regarding to UtdEnvironment, I don't know why it hit  3 cents a day, and I don't care why. Personally, I tend not to buy a share if the shared is promoted by a research insititue or inventment bank, because normall it is too late already when read the report. What matters to me is not how many "cheong" babies I miss, but rather how many babies among my picked babies "cheong". Just my view, not offensive.

My advise is to stay with strong counters - Resource, Finance and Multi-industries perhaps.

UtdEnvirotech, I won't want to take my chances.
Such stocks are very much controlled - you won't know when it'd recover after it drops drastically.

My take on the recent steady STI:

1. Q4 GDP for SG is slated to revise upwards, and with the GDP of 2010 forcasted to grow +ve to 3.5%, there's greater confidence in the local bourse. The local bourse has a co-relation to a country's GDP, you can refer to the column posted in today's TODAY paper - at its business section. With renewed confidence and +ve forcast in SG, it's not hard to see why the index has been rather steady / inching upwards. In this case, I'd say that it's the 'upbeat' news that set the 'upbeat' tone on the local bourse.

2. Day-in-and-out, there's on-going news that the SG bourse has a 20-30% upside to go forward into 2010.

3. X'mas rally (Heard of it?? - there's historical evidence on this) - Institutions are going to need to beef-up their results and port-folio for their year-end bonuses. Where better to do it than in Singapore where it's garnering good news. Also, the SG dollar is said to strengthen against the USD. With the US still exhibiting weakness, investments are heading elsewhere.

I'd conclude that while the +ve new continues to spur on SG, those with deep pockets will put their money here where potential gains is seen.

The guiding beacon is still the USDI. Nothing else is important. USDI has now seem to have formed a rather strong base amidst everyone saying that it is doom and gloom for the dollar. It is secretly building strength to take evryone by surprise. End of the day, even if the Fed was to keep interest rates at near 0 forever, USDI will still rise. Why? Because markets dun like to be pressured to keep putting money in asset classes that are becoming riskier each day and having to borrow more money to hedge against the rising of USDI. The maths doesn't add up! So wat to do? They forgo whatever interest returns from the dollar and go for the potential upside in the dollar because it is NOW the safest asset class to own ! Smiley

I remembered there was a news article on CNA, 7 Dec where STI and other S'pore indices had some glitches, currently being looked into by FTSE. See link below.
