But
do we care as much for our own? How gracious and considerate are we to
each other? Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew thinks we have got a long way
to go.
In January, he said: “It’s very difficult to get a rough society onto a cultivated plane ... where people are considerate to one another ... It will take more time to develop and mature culturally as a people. I will not see it, maybe you will live long enough to see it; I wish you well.” http://www.todayonline.com/articles/270066.asp |

Elfin, If a toddler wanders near a canal and about to fall into it, would any passer-by help to guide the toddler back to safety? The answer is obviously yes. This shows that man-kind are born with kindness. They become selfish because of the environment. This is the basis of confucian teaching. I am sure you are kind too to share with us so much knowledge. The basis of Taoism is symbolised by the Bakua. No matter how big the"black" (negative connotations) sector will still contain a small white spot (positive connotations). Likewise, a big sector of white spot will still contain a small black spot. On the other hand, Qin Shihuang followed the legalistic (believe that human are born bad) teaching of Hanzhi (can't remember the actual name), and the dynasty collapse within 21 years of uniting China. | ||||||

Do your duty to the best of your ability, O Arjun, with your mind attached to the Lord, abandoning worry and selfish attachment to the results, and remaining calm in both success and failure. The calmness of the mind is called KarmaYog. (2.48) In KarmaYog, no effort is ever lost and there is no adverse effect. Even a little practice of this discipline protects one from the great fear of birth and death. http://www.gita4free.com/english_completegita2.html |

nah, you don't expect to be repaid. you do, however, expect not to be abused, used or exploited. and worser, treated like a fool after that. the natural state of human nature is selfishness, not kindness. kindness is learnt behaviour. it is something you can see on the face of a person; and it is beautiful, precisely because it is not human.

No free rides: This means you You're mad. I get that. But some of you are misdirecting your anger. That's abundantly clear from the reactions to my recent MSN column "7 surefire ways to stay poor." Judging from the feedback, most of you got what I was saying: that the consequences for mismanaging money are becoming more serious as incomes shrink, living expenses soar and job uncertainty mounts. The seven missteps I warned about were: * Getting the big stuff wrong by paying too much for shelter or transportation. * Confusing needs and wants. * Considering only the monthly payments of a loan or purchase. * Failing to track where the money goes. * Carrying credit card debt. * Living close to the edge without an emergency cushion. * Squandering what you have by raiding your retirement funds. When you're broke, making any of these mistakes can guarantee you stay that way. Setting a few things straight Part of the problem, I think, was that the headline writer used the word "poor." In the column, I used the word "broke." I draw a pretty distinct line between the two. In an earlier column, "Lessons from living down and out," I defined "broke" as a temporary state of being out of money. Being poor, by contrast, is "not having enough or even the prospect of having enough." If you are truly poor, you may not have the resources to turn your situation around. If you're just broke, though, chances are good that you can. People are doing it every day and talking about their progress on the Your Money and Women in Red message boards, as well as in the community that's sprung up around MSN's Smart Spending blog. All this doesn't mean, as some of you thought, that I'm letting lawmakers, regulators and corporations off the hook. I think it's scandalous that: * 45 million Americans, including 9 million children, have no health insurance and that premiums are soaring for those who still do. * Lenders of all stripes are allowed to charge usurious interest rates, trapping many borrowers into unpayable debt. * Wall Street behemoths get bailouts while people trying to save their homes can't get their lenders to return phone calls. * Incomes and wealth have become so concentrated, to the point where the wealthiest 1% of the population now reaps a bigger share of income than at any time since the Great Depression, at the same time that inflation-adjusted incomes have fallen for most workers. Those are the things that tick me off. I think they should tick you off, too, regardless of how well you manage your money, and I think we should push to get those problems fixed. But I don't think you should wait for others to act, and I certainly don't buy the idea that you have no choice but to be broke. Get smart and keep an open mind There are situations, of course, in which it's all but impossible to get ahead financially: You're in poor health and can't work. If a chronic illness or disability prevents you from earning income, your options dwindle. You can reduce your expenses, but you'll have a tough time advancing economically. The people who really can get ahead are those who can work more hours, find a better job or start a side business. You're convinced you're helpless. In my experience, a closed mind is a much bigger barrier than an unhealthy body. You may ask for help but then reject every solution offered. You may insist you're ready to change, but you keep doing the same old stuff that keeps you where you are. Or you may just decide that your problems are too big for you to solve, in which case your attitude is pretty much a self-fulfilling prophecy. Unless and until you understand that you're responsible for your own rescue, not much can change. If you can't see a way to improve your finances, post your situation on the Your Money message board and discover what other people have done in similar circumstances. If you keep an open mind and are willing to try, you may well find the help you're seeking there. If you have your health and even average intelligence, you have a shot at improving your life. If you don't take it and figure out a way to get on top of your money, you're the one who's going to pay the price. There are no free rides. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/SaveMoney/NoFreeRidesThisMeansYou.aspx?page=1 |

Sat, Aug 09, 2008 The Straits Times The easy answer is that both China and Singapore are authoritarian states. The freedoms taken for granted in the West - freedom of speech and assembly - come with more caveats in these two places. But things are not so simple. There are plenty of authoritarian states around, but most do not attract as much attention as Singapore and China. The real sin: Singapore and China are examples of countries which are taking a different route to development, and look to be succeeding. Success grates, especially when it cocks a snook at much-cherished liberal values. As Madam Yeong Yoon Ying, press secretary to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, said last month: 'Singapore is an example to other countries of how the free market plus the rule of law, and stable macro-economic policies, can lead to progress and success, but without Western-style 'liberal' democracy.' http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20080809-81442.html |

..err .. and u may add this last bit to the movie for a good feel effect , give the audience some hope .. : ... then a small fry , who still does not know what it wants to in life, feels sorry for the plight of fellow small fries . It thinks it need to help them somehow, and with the little knowledge it had gained, decides to do something. So this small fry takes upon itself to educate and share whatever it knows to empower the small fries . Soon , when the next Bull Run comes , the unscrupulous BeeBees get a taste of their own medicine ! Justice is done ! And all the small fries go off on a Caribbean Cruise for holiday in khaki shorts and Hawaiian half sleeve shirts wearing eye shades ! And we cut the movie with a shot of the small fry smilling knowingly ! The End ! hahahahha ! (ps.) we rope in Nick Leeson , Jim Rogers and his Mandarin speaking daughter in one sences for added appeal for worldwide distribution ...hahaha ! |
