Actually, if you look at all the counters in the market, although the STI only shows a slight market drop, many counters have broken down today... This is a sickly market... Where good money can be made by only being very selectively... ![]() |

STI may rise 12%, ABN Amro says
Singapore’s Straits Times Index may climb to 3,300 by the end of 2010, boosted by demand for companies reliant on rising personal spending, according to Neo Chiu Yen, an analyst at ABN Amro Private Banking.
The level is 12% higher than the gauge’s close yesterday of 2,949.26. Neo, whose firm oversees US$21 billion ($28.7 billion) in Asia, favors consumer-related stocks such as CapitaLand, Southeast Asia’s biggest developer, and Singapore Airlines, the world’s second-largest carrier by market value. She said they will benefit from low interest rates and rising employment. The city-state’s economy expanded by a record 17.9% in the six months to June as tourism and exports surged. The government this week reiterated its forecast that gross domestic product will grow at between 13% and 15% this year, a rate that approaches the world’s fastest.
“The consumer-discretionary sector should outperform as the economic recovery extends beyond exports to domestic demand,” Neo said in an interview yesterday. “The low interest-rate environment and tight labor market are supportive of rising domestic consumption. Falling interest rates also bode well for risk assets, such as equities.”
The Straits Times Index has climbed 1% this year, extending last year’s 64% advance. The gauge’s 30 companies are valued at an average 14.1 times estimated earnings, more than the MSCI Asia Pacific Index’s 13.7 times and the MSCI World Index’s 12.8 times.

the big drop in US didn't cause a huge fall in the local bourses.. i was expecting like 1-2% fall but it didn't materialise.. looks like the STI is supported pretty well.. buy on dip especially those food commodity related counters.. i'm still bullish on this sector... |

while the index is down for the last few days due to law of gravity (push and pull by external forces), Market is still writing its script and hesitating in writing the outcome for the next few months (hence no need to be too bearish or too bullish)....however, there is always a dateline to script submission, and it will be forced to be ready within a week...meanwhile, only rotational play will be in force...good luck :)

More than 90% of the top volume today belong to penny stocks. Most penny stocks has not been moving when STI surge from 2600 to 3000 level and they are starting to move now. |

It is not just simply a matter of 'buy when some people are fearful'... More importantly, fear takes time to seep in, not in sporadic spurts. Thus, this is why downtrends come into existence. Which means, as more and more people start to fear (for their money), the market will establish a downtrend over a period of time. How skillfully one can accurately 'catch the falling knife' will be the test of one's skill in trading...
