As mentioned in the conference, JVMS is a jewel for both Biosensors and WeiGao. They both knew that. If the intention is to list JVMS, then the discussion is probably how much each shareholders willing to part to the market, knowing that the other party probably will increasing their holdings in JVMS thru the public market. However, I don't know if Biosensors has the financial strength if they want to, otherwise another possible way is to ride on the current trend of dual listing in US where valuation for health-care sector is better. Just a thought... vest interest. |

Nomura's analyst asked the CEO during the Q3 2010 audio conf, on the on-going discussions with Weigao on their joint ownership of JWMS. The CEO mentioned that they have a very good relationship with Weigao, and that they are in deep discussions regarding JWMS, meeting more than once a month. THe discussions are described as 'very productive', 'Driven', 'very fruitful'. And the discussions involved almost 'everything' including ownership changes, distribution channels, joint clinical trials, etc. Also, the CEO mentioned the chinese company called Le Pew (That is what it sounds like - dont know the actual name) that is listed on the chinese stk exchange valued at US$1.6 Billion, and says that JWMS has a better product than them. This is the 2nd time that he mentions this company, the first time was in the JP Morgan Healthcare conf. From the looks of it, there is a possibility that they are comtemplating a IPO listing for JWMS - just a guess. For info and discussion - Not a call to buy/sell. THe mkt is currently not condusive for trading. |

The Chinese Govt grant is US$5.2m (refer to page 9 of the slides), and JWMS net profit is actually US$12.3m. Biosensors own 50 % of JWMS and therefore they only recognised US$5.7m as part of their profit (less than half of US$12.3m, possibly due to inter-company trns). Therefore we should only deduct half of the govt grant, ie US$2.6m, when adjusting for the net profit less the grant. For info. |

Have completed listening to the audio conference. Below are my understandings. Just to highlight the China Government Grant is US$5.6m, thus the net profit attributable is US$6.8m instead. Also, the US$135 - 145m given guidance is for FY11.
Just to confirm did the CEO mentioned that for the China approval, his best estimate is within next 3 months?

The China story is very interesting indeed. To make it a talking point may just be an indication of things to come out of China. Somehow I have a feeling that their biomatrix approval will come only after BIG and Weigao sort out what the want to do together.... this is pure speculation. But yes...... the China slant in this briefing is quite telling. | ||||||||

Having just listen to the audio conf held this morning by Biosensors - I must say that their DES sales have outperformed Nomura's expectation of a 10 % growth qtr-on-qtr. Nomura was expecting a 10 % increase over last qtr sales of US$12.8m, translating into a US$14.08m. Instead Biosensors did a US$16.5m sales of DES for Q3 2010 - a 28 % growth ! Finally, we are seeing some sales 'traction', and the CEO has guided for a 40 % increase in sales for the DES product next year !. With a net profit achieved of US$12.4m, less the JWMS govt grant of US$2.6m, the net profit attributable is US$9.8m, translating to a EPS of US 0.893 cents, if annualised, gives earnings of US 3.57 cents per yr, or Sing 5 cents per yr. Based on closing price of 0.80 cents, Biosensor is trading at a PE ratio of 16 times ! The CEO has also given guidance that revenue will increase from this yr US$95m-US$105m to US$135 - US$145m, excluding licensing and JWMS, approximately a 38 % increase in revenue, which will surely flow over into the bottomline. Overall, the results has surpassed by expectation. THe CEO also explained in detail, their on-going discussions with Weigao, their partner who owns the other 50 % of JWMS - listen to the conf for more details - very interesting. All computations above are mere estimates - Kindly do your own homework. Not a call to buy/sell |

If you look at the DES technology landscape, and listen to all the clinical researchers at the major DES conferences, you can get the sense that the 2nd generation or 3rd generation DES belongs to the 'bio-degradable' or 'no polymer' category. THe holy grail, which is a bio-degradable stent itself, seems to be very far away. THe most promising one is the Absorb trial by Abbot lab, using the Biosensors' PLA polymer to form the stent and using the Everolimus drug on the stent. Although, the trial seems to be 'successful', it involves very simple short lesions, and the researcher in charge of the project (was interviewed in CRTONLINE.org) seems to indicate that they have a lot of problems to surmount, and the earliest that they can be in Europe is probably 2012, and major trials in the US only after 2015. The fact of the matter is this - most real world lesions are complicated, severely diseased, long, bifurcated, diabetes, etc. and the fear of the vessel wall collapsing is very, very real. I don't see how useful the Abbot DES is, even if it is approved, and will probably be used only in a small percentage of the population. The majority of the patients will have to rely on a permanent scaffolding to prop up the ailing vessel. Right now, Abbot is riding high, because their Xience DES has very good efficacy, but it has a permanent polymer. However, the other major companies like J & J, Boston Scientific are hedging their bets by going the bio-degradable way - J & J with their Nevo DES, and Boston Scientific with their acquisition of Labcoat. Even Medtronics have started a pre-clinical trial with a 'no polymer' DES. I am not sure about the details - heard a bit of it in one of the video conf in CRTONLINE.org. The crucial question is whether Biosensors can make use of their early advantage to gain significant mkt share and to LEAD the mkt forward by coming out with the next 'no polymer' DES. That is why, we have to see whether their sales can gain 'traction', or will they just be a mediocre company that can do 'only reasonably well'. Some personal opinions on the DES landscape. Not a call to buy/sell. |

this is a very "news-driven" counter. Unless we get very good result/forecast tomorrow, the fillip may not come and it will hover just above the 0.82 support. I don't see it testing the 0.90 level. Unfortunately, it has been hammered down in this recent correction. I think the better bet is for the china approval to see the next level breeched.
