Short term SATS with sure drop.. Vested in SATS... But longer term more free float of SATS share, i think is beneficial. SIA can buy abit time to time to prop up SATS share price.. Look at the takeover of SFI. I think they have a plan to prop up the counter. Just going ride through with SATS |

Wah! After the bad Q results and more to come, they use their majority own SATS to prevent a market sold down to their share price? Actually, just think what will happen after CA? To me, its LPPL u know.

Div in specie is NOT 73c. It is 0.73 SATS shares for every SIA share owned. Based on today's SATS close of 1.55, it works out to be $1.13c per SIA share. Add this to 20c final and 20c interim, total divident is 40c + $1.13 = $1.53. Pretty generous, if you ask me. 13% yield.

looking at their number of passengers, 1Q 09 might be red also, although fuel price dropped compared to last year. won't SATS share price drop as SIA giving them as 'freebie' ??? |

Sound like giving unexpected bonus in a very bad situation for result ended Mar 31, 2009. 20ct plus 73ct Does it mean now Sats share price will be affected and under pressure, 'cos SIA has given out to its shareholders at a discount? Does it mean the scheme benefits SIA, but not Sats? Is it a good time to buy SIA now? My personnally opinion is 2moro another day for SIA stock to end lower. reaction to a bad fall on bad time as resulted shown a fall of 92% in profit, but eventually after fall, thing will pick up again Sell into strength, buy on weakness price is within $10-11.60 |

1 May 09 , .... SIA, which is parking planes and slashing capacity amid a sharp downturn in which passenger loads have fallen to almost 70 per cent and cargo loads to less than 60 per cent. It has already put 50 cargo pilots on unpaid leave and is grounding 17 planes, cutting some 11 per cent of capacity this year. SIA carried just 1.28 million passengers in March - a 23 per cent drop from March last year. Having forced staff to take unpaid leave, analysts believe SIA may have to resort to layoffs if operating conditions continue to deteriorate. Separately, on the swine flu front, SIA said it is closely monitoring the situation. |

SIA has around 49% stake in UK-based Virgin Atlantic Airways Virgin Airlines to Cut 600 PositionsSir Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic Airways may eliminate 600 posts across its business, the Crawley, England-based company says. Steve Ridgway, Virgin’s CEO, said the airline needs to reduce headcount in order to “stay healthy” until economies revive. Airlines worldwide are shedding jobs and routes to help combat losses that may exceed $2.5 billion this year, as traffic falls 3%.. |

Citigroup recent Valuation on SIA < 16 Mar 09 > Our target price for SIA is S$8.50, using a FY10E valuation base. We derive our target from a DDM approach. Using a FY10E ROAE of 7%, a dividend payout ratio of 100%, cost of equity of 10%, and a growth rate of 0.5%, we get a target FY10 P/E of 11x and a target P/B of 0.77x - giving a target price of S$8.50. In FY10E we forecast that SIA's ROE will fall to 7% from 9.5% in FY09E. SIA would be earning an ROE well below its cost of capital, which suggests that SIA's share price could trade below book value during this stage of the economic downturn. With earnings and price performance volatile, it is difficult to have a long-run fair value for an airline stock. To maximize investment returns, we believe one has to understand how valuations change through an earnings cycle - which is why we have used a P/E and P/B analysis.
