Singapore Airlines eliminated extra stops on Tokyo flights that were introduced after a March 11 earthquake disrupted transportation links and power supplies in the Japanese capital.

Flights serving both Tokyo Haneda Airport and Tokyo Narita are now operating non-stop, Nicholas Ionides, a spokesman, said by e-mail today. The Singapore-based carrier, Qantas Airways Ltd. and British Airways were among airlines to add extra stops on Japan flights last month so that crew members could avoid spending the night in Tokyo.

“We have reviewed the situation and conditions in Tokyo closely, and are satisfied that there are sufficient supplies and measures in place to ensure the well-being and safety of our crew during their layovers,” Ionides said.

British Airways, a unit of International Consolidated Airlines Group SA, has also resumed non-stop flights to Narita, removing an extra stop that prolonged journey times and increased fuel usage. Demand for flights to Tokyo has tumbled though as engineers battle to prevent a meltdown at a nuclear- power plant crippled by the temblor and a tsunami.

Singapore Airlines has cut one of its daily Haneda flights until May 8, according to a notice on its website. Cathay Pacific Airways and Qantas have also suspended some services to Japan.
