15-03-2011--Regional bourses fell on Japanese radiation fears triggering widespread selling with Singapore falling more than 3% at one stage to its lowest level since last August and finished off at < .FTSTI> 2,946.08 points, or -2.8%, easing of a little of its early loss. * Singapore falls to 7-month low at one stage.

Airline companies fell again because of worries about tourism and travel around the region, with some considering whether they should halt flights to and from Japan.

On short term, tourist sector to suffer but petrochemicals and energy stocks should gain. " Petrochemicals will likely benefit as significant capacity is and will be shut down for repair and safety checks," anticipating shifts away from nuclear to other sources of energy, to the benefit of refineries and coal miners.

Something positive from Japan...at least.. Japan Drilling Co. ordered a drilling rig from Keppel FELS. The cost of building the vessel, which will be delivered in March 2013, is US$210 million ($266 million), the Japanese company said today in a statement to the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

wow, chart forming more and more like clsa fengshui chart pattern. tiger year was lag one month on the whole chart. for this year, till today date it look quite similiar.

it weird but true, london shares never hit 6100 points. happen 3 times this years if i remember.

japan world third largest economy with such news, investment is going to DD tank like shit.

hopefully the dark cloud will be cleared within next 2 weeks, a similiar pattern observed to those many many crisis, eg mid east.

U.S. stocks headed for big selloff

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- U.S. stocks were headed for a major selloff at the start of trading Tuesday, following a 10% drop in Japan's leading index in the wake of a nuclear crisis caused by last week's earthquake.

Dow Jones industrial average futures were down 1.6%, which would translate to a nearly 200-point drop in the index at the open. S& P 500 and Nasdaq futures were down more than 1.5%. Futures measure current index values against perceived future performance.

Alexchia01, just because you got the STI bull breakout wrong and went long past 3083 which turned out to be a trap, doesn't give you a right to judge anyone who had sold their long positons or short sell at that point/ peak. They are simply accomplished in trading smartly and protecting their positions & money.

It is immoral of you to insinuate that the blood of lost lives are upon these traders/ retail investors. What a ridiculous statement from you, Alex. Do u hav any idea just how many people had probably gone long to buy stocks upon reading your postings that STI's going up and runaway? Don't have such a loser spirit.

You were just hesitant/ fearful to short the stock market back then, full stop. Not that you showed empathy to mankind by withholding your shorts.

The global market operates on & reacts to any news, be it good or bad on economic sentiments or natural calamities. Have you not personally vested (in equity markets or property) & benefited during times of war, sep 11, Sars or any economic recession periods which were also times of distress to humanity?

I agree. Nice one Isolator.I don't think Alexchia is trying to insulate anything. He is just stating his stand. His own beliefs. Like wise I do know alot of people who will make money in such a market but also donate alot of it to Japan. This is also their way of helping. There is no right and wrong.

There are many types of characteristics of human beings in the world, and in the case of stock market, Traders or investors.

Speaking of one's feeling about making profit from the stock market out of some tradegies, are merely nothing more than one's truth feeling being expressed out in the Forum, and , i suppose Alex means no harm to those who made profits out of the current situation. ::)

War or choas or disasters of any country does affect stock market. Remember when one of the presidents passed away (i cant remember which country was that), the stock market was closed for many days back then.
