U.S. stocks fell further into the red Wednesday, following a report showing a sharp drop in new home sales.

The disappointing housing data added another layer of worry for investors already unnerved by growing violence in the Middle East and Japan's nuclear issues.

Dow Jones industrial average (INDU) slipped 15 points, or 0.1%, the S& P 500 (SPX) shed 3 points, or 0.3%, and the Nasdaq (COMP) lost 8 points, or 0.3%.



" While there's a lot of big news going on, it's really a lot of the same geopolitical stories we've seen over the past few weeks," said David Jones, chief market strategist at IG Markets.

Jones said investors were shrugging off the Egyptian market plunge. The stock market in Egypt had been closed since Jan. 27, and most traders had already anticipated the sharp drop.

Other world markets were stronger. Asian markets ended the session mixed. The Shanghai Composite added 1%, while the Hang Seng edged down 0.1%.

Nikkei closed 1.7% lower, but it was the smallest percentage change in the index since the massive earthquake and devastating tsunami, (Added on by teeth53--plus containing it  nuclear radiation leakage problem)

teeth53 thot--Thurs, STI mkt pending tonite performance. Friday STI will be critical, not necessary ending in red

STI is still more prom to the downside, so any bad news can easily spook the market.

However, unless there is a major bad news that takes everyone by surprise, I don't think STI would fall to 2900 within the next 2 days.

In the mid to longer term, STI is still downtrending, so 2900 within the next few months or maybe weeks is possible.

Just my view.

 Alert Admin 		thanks i think for me its best to buy on fri. though i hate holding over the weekend for fear of bad news..but am thinking China just increase rate so should not do another round so soon. n normally people sell on fri so should be a better time to pick up. I see first...cause i am playing contra so i have to be careful.

You can Buy today, but bare in mind that tomorrow is Thursday and near the end of the week.

There is a high chance of STI doing a technical correction in the next 2 days.

I would Buy some today, but reserve some fund to average down if needed.

Please note that although I uses average down as part of my trading strategy, I don't average indefinitely. The max I would average down in any stock is 2 times. I also don't average down if the market or the counter turns negative due to some bad news.
