NEW DELHI: Just when summer is approaching, the power ministry has sounded a warning bell on fuel shortage tripping electricity production, government sources said. Power minister Sushilkumar Shinde has told the Prime Minister's Office that state-run Coal India Ltd's failure to meet supply targets may stop some 17,000 mw of generation capacity that are in the pipeline from being switched on. Similarly, 5,593 mw of generation capacity that has been coming on stream through 2009-10 would produce less than half their rated capacity because they would not have enough coal. That could mean a sweaty summer ahead. About 70% of power is generated by coal-fired plants in the country. These plants form the bulwark during summer months when hydel production declines as water levels in dams run low but power demand rises exponentially. Shinde has told the PMO the government would have to scale down targets for ramping up generation capacity in 2011-12 as well as during the 12th Plan if coal supply is not augmented immediately. Sources said coal shortage had increased since the growth in CIL's output did not match the " rapid" pace of generation capacity addition. The ministry reckoned some 52,000 mw of coal-fired capacity under execution would be in jeopardy unless coal production rose 20%. That may be a tall order for CIL or the coal ministry. The power ministry knows it too well. An internal note prepared by the ministry partly blames the environment ministry's " Go, No-Go" policy for blocking development of coal mines. The note puts the present shortage at 60 million tonnes that is expected to rise to 85 million tonnes in 2011-12. It says power stations would need 532 million tonnes to run at 90% of their capacity during 2011-12. Supplies from CIL, however, are estimated at 414 million tonnes. http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-03-23/india/29177493_1_coal-shortage-coal-supply-coal-ministry Pay attention to Energy Counters.  Japan has started to resume its rebuilding. Summer is approaching and there are going to be serious shortage of Coal due to few factors 1) Many Australian miners are not back to its full production yet. 2) Demand spike from India as growth & summer approaches. 3) Japan has to replace its electricity shortage and they are not going for nuclear. Coal prices likely to surge in coming weeks as demand from Japan and India comes in. Good Luck.   |

Technical Analysis on STI
STI index has been re-tested the minor resistance at 3070 and closed above for the first time in the week since mid of Feb 2011. 1)  In weekly charts, a long white candle stick with little upper/lower shadow affirms that investors began to buy up stocks that are expected to produce good results. 2)  The weekly trading volume slightly decline as fear subsided and bargain hunter came in for shopping. 3)  MACD and RSI indicators are neutral as RSI trend sideway. 4) STI is currently supported by the critical support at 3040 5) More bullish signals will be expected as long as STI can sustain above the 3040 level. A break of 3120 resistance will end all bearish talks and could boost the market sentiment greatly. Important resistance of STI: 3070 (Daily charts) Immediate Support of STI: 3040 (Daily charts) MY tactics: STI rally.......................READ MORE   |

Just sharing some news from Reuter...(This rate increases is only in S.E.A.) For more info n thing to note... https://www.ketrade.com.sg/page/SLQG_NewsArticleFrame.jsp?ARTICLE_ID=4864698 March 25 (Reuters) - Consumer prices are rising in Southeast Asia so central banks are tightening monetary policy, but the pace will depend on how fast prices rise and how growth is affected by a surge in energy costs and Japan's earthquake. Philippines finally raised rates on Thursday to curb inflation. Thailand, which raised rates this month for the fifth time in six meetings, looks set to tighten again next month. Indonesia, which pushed up its rates in February, left them unchanged this month but said it would adjust rates in stages if necessary. Malaysia had three rate hikes last year and may lift them again in May as inflation quickened. Vietnam, which is struggling to prop up its currency, raised some of its key interest rates again this month. http://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/Asian-stocks-rise-dealers-afpsg-1791858102.html?x=0 Asian shares rose on Friday as traders took a strong cue from Wall Street while sentiment was also buoyed by progress in containing a crippled nuclear plant in Japan. Regional shares have also been supported by bargain hunting after a sell-off last week as dealers are growing more confident that the battle to avoid a meltdown at the Fukushima No.1 plant in Japan is being won with crews having linked up an external electricity supply to all six reactors and preparing to restart cooling systems.

This depends if there an any major bad news that takes the world by surprise. If there is no major bad news, we should see a correction only. 5 Days Bull Run is quite spectacular, but the Bull must also take a break. If there is just one major bad news, STI could fall all the way to 2900.
