Housing prices and rising costs (over-inflation) cannot be controlled by normal market action.   However it could be done through " intervention" by governments. Right now in Singapore, we really never see government intervention in these two areas. MPs sleeping or ministers sleeping, on may ask?  Laziness and indifference in administration will make everybody suffer eventually..  On the contrary the government seemed to support housing properties and rising costs by their incessant rhetoric arguments. Intervention is necessary to lower costs of living and housing prices, properly done would never lower standards of living.   I know this can be done if the government wants to do so. Look at the Singapore currency strength, it is obviously through intervention.   Singapore could have too much money floating and too huge cross currency hedges, so it is natural to support it. Layman like us can only presume, agak agak logically. Rich people likes property to rise in price because they have too many property investments. PRs like property to rise in prices, even more so if they own HDB flats, because they can bring home to their own motherland the huge gains converted to their own currencies and probably spent their lives happily with these profits enabling them to purchase land, build houses and save back home. Singaporeans who already having HDB flats but have intention to sell them wants prices to move up, yes it is natural. But don't forget that it only can be done only once and not the stocks and shares where you can trade forever. There goes...    |

What I'm saying is this is not the time to discuss about property issue. Because of 80%! I also said gradual increase of  property prices, and  raising the earnings of average Singaporean is more important then bringing down the whole property market. And also having a look at retirement plannings. Especially those of Australia ones, will put the opposition is a better position rather then picking on the wrong issue to argue about.

but if u r of retirement age n ur children are unlucky enough to be one of the new couple u know what is likely to happen? they will get married n stay with u. if u have 2 kids stayin in a 5 room flat. its okie if they do not have kids but once they started to start their own family....u r talking about 3 families staying under one roof. sure u might not mind it...since we asians are used to it... but its ridiculous. take my neighbour for example. she has two sons n a daughter. sons are married n they each have a child. guessed what all living under e same roof. plus they have a maid also. hence in total 7 adults n 2 small child living in a 4 bedroom senario....sometimes one of them have to go to their auntie place to stay to ease e tension. u like?

My hubby has been talking to all these property owners as he goes about doing his work. These are the views he had collected. Both old owners and new ones alike. I get the impression that once that are in, they wouldn't want their property to make a paper lost. What if they have a problem and needs to downgrade but couldn't because they would have to sell at a lost? These problems are very real you know? The way I see it, property prices have spike over the years because of speculations. Just look at the number of shoe box unit and you will know. Whose fault is it? Comes exactly from the same young couples who Kia Yi Boh nia! Gradual increase of  property prices, and  raising the earnings of average Singaporean is more important then bringing down the whole property market. And also having a look at retirement plannings. Especially those of Australia ones, will put the opposition is a better position rather then picking on the wrong issue to argue about.

It is a matter of pricing.   Lets face it.   If you are a coffee shop owner, you don't want your cup of coffee to sell for 60 cents, right?   But that is from the coffee stall's view point. Customers will think rightly you are profteering if you sell them $2.00per cup. I can sell you cheap flat, but can you buy it, if you are already owning one? Or you are not qualified to buy my cheap flat.   But if I sell the poor chap expensive, you think he can afford? The opposition's view for cheaper flats is a broader picture and not based on a narrow scope of things. I think govt should moderate the prices and do something to make HDB flats affordable. | ||||

Which opposition  member wants to sell his/her flat at below valuation price?? Plese publishe his/her name here.......lol!!    I want to buy from them. The HDB record will show  who and who sold their flats and  what price, i am sure, among them,    some already made hugh profits, and, they got the cheak to want to help push down the HDB selling price.??

Perhaps if one is a HDB dweller and does not intend to upgrade further and hapily retiring as in the below mentioned example, I can understand your view. However, what I am stating if from a different prespective. Singapore is not made of that one pool of voters in retirement mode. Besides, if everything and everyone is fine and dandy and happy with property prices skyrocketing, then why would the gahmen be so busy with property cooling measures, unless it's all gibberish talk by the gahmen and to serve what purpose? As far as elections is concerned... I believe HDB prices are just one of the issues tha's griped this nation. I think Singaporeans also do not wish to be treated like horses working a mill with a carrot dangled in front of them every 4 years.. working the mill to generate and fatten the owners while the horse gets mere nibbles. It is known that in Singaporeans case, whats given to them 5% (the blardi carrot!) is taken back 10% over time .. My two cents worth ![]()

There is a lot of Sell Down this morning, even though the price was up. Later in the afternoon, everything start falling down. STI's MACD reverse downwards today. Could this be the start of a major correction? Anyway, I'm going short today. It's much safer than going long. Just my personal view. Good luck. |

You don't understand what I am talking about. I am speaking from a HDB flats owner voter point of view. 80% of the voters stays in HDB now. MBT ward is a matured estate with limited new flats. Do you think residence here wants the value of their flats to come down? Yes, young new couples will want it to come down so that they can hop on the train, but once they are on, do you think they will still hope the prices of their flats to come down further? The election has always been about the HDB. Queing of new flats, upgradings of old flats, infrastructures near to the flats.....Think about it, why not ask the opposition ward members to lead by selling their own flats at a lost to set an example? There are many things to talk about, why fight a losing battle by picking  on  an issue which is a double edge sword?

Infact, collecting rent is lucrative even if just from room rental.  Retirees whose children have all married and stay on their own can  do this  for daily expenses. On top of their children's monthly contributions. We are just attached to the false sense of privacy. If  you can just detach yourselve from it.

Especially for the many young couples/singles out there who want to purchase a home in the near future, it is indeed a strain on finances.
