You are right... Now is not the best time to short. I just said it's time to short, I don't think it's the best time yet. A better time could be after GE. I don't know if US might cause the market to goes up next week. I've stop watching US market since early last year because I find that Asia markets don't react so much to US after the financial crisis. From my experience, May and June are usually the down months. Looking at the current market condition, I think this year is most likely the same. I may be wrong, this is just my personal opinion. Good luck.

I don't short any rubbish lah. If you look at the counters I shorted. They are all downtrending stocks which either reversed from their resistance level or there is a huge sell down volume recently. These are counters that have a high change of falling. You don't see me shorting Kep Corp or SembMar right... People who short these are then call siao. STI ETF won't go to $1.99 one lah. If that happens, the world must be coming to the end. I'm looking at support level $3.10, at best $2.90. If you look at the STI ETF chart, you'll see the 3 days high volume sell down. These are bearish signs, you must take note of. The thing that is holding STI right now is partially the GE. Next week, we may see some action, but resistance is strong at $3.30. After GE, there is a high chance of STI falling. Just my personal view. I may be wrong.

It is totally wrong to judge him having the iphone.   Starhub gives you a free one on certain package.   It could also have been borrowed from his cousin or nephew or even his kind neighbor or his girlfriend.   Please, this is what I called wrong perception.   By misjudging him, you deprived the old lady of help.   Liang xin he chu? Even the magistrate can also make mistake, and pass wrong judgment.   So we should not alleviate ourselves being social workers, to be a judge of a person's need by looking at the iphone. It   is a misadventure so much so that society is in terrible shape..   Referring to the case I mentioned earlier, the MP did not have the opportunity to see the person.   I went to see his home and found out about his problem.   Worker is a cleaner work part=time in MRT pay $600 per month.   Lives with aged mother, a sister-in-law whose husband was in jail.   A 3 month old baby underfed.   Utilities not paid, HDB installment in several months arrears.   Came to CC for help and I went to investigate after which recommended a $250 per month for 6 months payable if possible to be paid every 3 months with the first payment as immediate as possible.   But the MP with the advice of grassroots who never know this poor family rejected my report and offered coupons to buy NTUC goods.   This kind of MP can do?   No, must sack.

There is also one saying. Jiu Ji Bu Jiu Ping. Mean help those in dire straits, don't help those people who are always poor. Very easy to understand, a person whos in dire straits you don't help, he will die immediately. A person who is always very poor, there must be something fundamentally wrong. He must go find out whats wrong. You cannot always be cover his back for him.

I had come across a middle-age woman who goes to the MP for financial help, but was refused. Out of good-will, the RC helpers give her some money to temperately tie her over her immediate difficulty. The following week, she come back again for help, but was refused 2nd time. This time no money was given to her. A few hours later, her son come to the RC and make a big scene over why his mom cannot get any financial help. The thing that makes everyone angry is that he was carrying the latest iPhone during that time. If they truly have financial difficulty, where they get the money to buy the latest iPhone? Some people just want to get easy money. I understand why RC gives coupons/vouchers instead of cash. |

That is why I still reserve the 50% capital for averaging up if necessary. Unlike the shorts I did earlier, these are mid-term shorts, which I intent to accumulate more in later dates. I'm estimating to hold these counters 3 weeks or more.

....But these are only temporary measures and no good way of dealing with things.   The root causes should be examined and society must solve these. I overhead some people said that if help is so easy, I also want to avail of it.    Agreed. However, temporary help helps to tie you over so that you can concentrate on finding ways to  self help. Which is why helping them to self help is all the more important. Policies should be tweeked in this directions lest everyone will want help.   Frankly it is not that easy and if you seek help, you also must prove many things. You know, when I tried to ask one MP to help someone financially from comcare, he and his grassroots refused my recommendations but offer some coupons/vouchers. And did you ask what is the reason he had refused to help?  Was it valid? Was it reasonable? Or did you just keep quiet?   I never considered giving vouchers as help. When people are in need, vouchers cannot do a thing for them.   Yes maybe they can buy some food at Singsong, or NTUC, that is not help.   Help, however minute cannot be looked down upon. Unless a person is not really in need at all. And the motive is only money. The system is there to help out, but the players would always be reluctant to do so either because of wrong perception or  because they themselves want to help themselves first. There you have the answer. I do admit some people are luckier than others.   But important thing is the signature of the MP if Comcare is involved. Not really. My friend didn't. You can approach cdac on your own if you feel that the person's income qualifies. And don't expect help if the person is considered undeserving. For example like really can't afford to pay and still want to leave in a  4 room flat and subbornly refuse to rent out certain rooms to collect rental to pay  the loan and at the sametime refuse to downgrade. These are the people who sit down and whine and complain all day that there is no help. One good example is my brother. Don't be surprise that these are the very people who got their house confiscated and resell by the goverment. Just too stubborn to lower themselves. Face is more important then a roof over their head. |

I am not talking about helping people with money.   I am talking about helping to soften the burden of people.   I know what you are saying about charity and some social assistance given by some institutions.   It is not easy for them.   For example there are ways there except that you must know where to go, yes agreed.   But these are only temporary measures and no good way of dealing with things.   The root causes should be examined and society must solve these. I happen to be the one literate enough to help people around in applying for subsidies and assistance. That's why I know that there are already help in place. Its whether the people know where to go and who to turn to. Worst come to worst, there are still allowance given from temples, churches and association  to apply for. Some  people go from one to another just to get the subsidies. Not even a believer in any religions at all. And I also heard of temporary sheltors for single  mothers and men. Although its just a glimpse that come on TV. Bakeries sending their leftovers to the needys, the old age homes. Four Leave bakeries is one of them. If you are the one who does the helping out for these poor people, my  respect goes to you. Meantime, you should educate yourself on where to get these subsidies,  assistances and allowance.  Help is there. It depends on whether they know or not know. And even if not qualified, and you really want to help, you can help write letter to politians, companies, associations to ask for sponsors...some companies have allowance for all these, especially those public listed ones. If you really want to make a difference in society, if there's a will, theres a way.

Actually hor, many of our Singapore born citizens in their forties, fifties and sixties have had our happy times living in one community or one kampung as though from one family.   Without the land acquisition by the govt back then, we really cared and helped about one another whether we were related or not. We would know every one in the neighbourhood, and sometimes as far as many many miles away.   We would know whose children were doing well at school, who were making good money and who needed help. Actually those times were really super good times.   If anyone had a punctured tire, we would rush to go and help.   Though most were not really rich, since many were washer women, taxi drivers, chee cheong fan sellers and karong Gunee men, and Coolies, they were really very happy lot.   Even if anyone was poor, they still could eat porridge with sugar or bean source (tow yew) and remained very satisfied with living since not much to pay for utilities like few cents for taxi or bus rides, ten cents for a bowl of kway teow and $3K to 5K for a semi-d or bungalow.   These are for reminiscence only. The days are gone and would never return.   But in today's fast pace, it is really hard on many people from the younger generation, those in their thirties and forties, exception for those born with a silver spoon in their mouths.   So the main importance is a roof over their heads. Anything else not so imminent and   other problems can be sorted out.. So politicians like those from the PAP have really become super rich when many cannot even afford many things in life. It is just that these ordinary people who are crying out and asking for something to pull them through.   We must do our best to help them, and we ask the politicians to be generous to them and know their plights.

Time to Go Short. I shorted Olam, NOL, MIDAS, SGX, IndoAgri, CoscoCorp, Genting SP, CapsMallAsia and Yangzijiang. Queuing to short SingTel now. Actually, I start Shorting beginning of this week, but today is the most aggressive yet. And I'm only 50% vested, still waiting to see how things move next week. I believe the big fall would come after GE. Just my own view. Good luck to all. |

I grew up in redhill area in a rental flat of a living room and a bedroom. 6 people altogether. I am the one  most understand the plied of the poor.  Back then  people are very resiliance. They make kueh kueh for sale in chinese new year, hari raya and deepavali just to make a few more bucks to spend for the festivals. The malay  auntie go around washing cloths for a small sum of money.  My mum was a tailor and sew clothes at home to help with the family expenses. Even those other who don't have  any skill can make another extra room out of  a 1 living  l bedroom rental flats from partitions  to be rented out in ordered to make some money.  Children goes around the estate at regular intervals to sell the Apok Apok and Han Zi Dan made by their mothers. Back then, we don't have much to  begin with. On certain day, we have plain porridge and dark soy sauce for dinner.  There were no  government handouts. The people  have  this kampong spirit  to lookout for  each other. They were pretty much on their own. Yes, there are still poor people in this tiny rich island today. And yes, we  must do more for the poor, the old, the sick, and the needy. The thing is, to what extend? And on whose tab? And after helping, is there away to help them selfhelp? If you have the answer, please do not selfish. Please bring this up in paliament. They are doing the society a big favour.
