Now that voting is over and without incident. A note on politician well being. Just be human. In politic, it all about power, every politicians who are involve in politiking and jogging for power, will know that it come with the greed to hold on to what they  can ever  gain or loss. It will be for the party interest first and their party ideology. Next is for oneself, be it to oppose or to rule, be it is for opposing or against. There are too many example, alot of example, where political party chief, their General, their proxy, will fight to death using their own and each of their proxy, it is as far as on the others of this world and as near as in our neigbour and home. Ideology proxy victim will been used till death do them apart. The only victim's is innocent bystander used as human shield for and by  their master. Wish  all Aljuniess 200,000 voters all the best. We are lucky, somewhat..bless. |

" Yi yen zhi chu, si ma nan chui" is actually the same as " chun zi yi yen, si ma nan chui" meaning a gentleman when he said something, the word is his honour and should he not keep it he will become a " little man" (xiao ren) in the public's eyes. So business men will only trust people who are honest to do business with with their words being honoured.   The custom of honouring the words coming out from their mouths was used in trades and even in betting too in the past, such as buying and selling stocks through a phone call, a spoken word, and if you lost in the bet you would not say, " No I never place that bet."   This is the honour in the words.   In fact nobody will actually ever trust somebody whose words are not honoured..

The overseas guy is a top lawyer in Beijing who was finalist for dealmaker for the year in one of the world's largest IPOs. Why do I have a feeling that 15k/ month is actually a pay cut to him? | ||||

I don't think you are justified to say what you said.  Yes, money is there but is not the main consideration.  Just like NS said if you have heard her, " If it is because of money, I would have joined the PAP." By saying that the lure is the money, why didn't you also try at politics, one may ask? I believe the desire to serve has prompted noble men and honourable women  to stake their reputations and their livelihoods to enter opposition politics,  They are the real heros one must adore and admire.  Entering politics, especially opposition politics, in Singapore in the past many years was considered taboo, a risk few people dared to take because it may destroy you and your future very quickly because a ruling party usually has more ammunitions at their disposal to ensure their victories in many battles.  It is like a teenage boy trying his luck against a WWE professional wrestler.  The risk was too much to be taken, and your ribs could be  broken very easily and quickly. In recent years, because people are more educated and the fear of losing power by the PAP has been somewhat less imminent owing to the already fine tuning of politics here, that men and women of good integrity and calibres are encouraged to serve the nation and aspire to make live better for  their fellow countrymen. We salute everyone of them!!

You are kidding right?  The someone who worked overseas for over 30 years earn more than 10k a month in his job...you think if it's about money .. why come back for less money? Also to note - previously in my constituency.. a PAP MP was an Ambassador - so he was always in his overseas posting.. Like that also can be MP?  Where was he to look after our interest?  So got to pay more people below him to do his job? Last time hard to contest cos everytime kena sued.  Who can tahan.  We all not rich what.  Now climate better. Also people more educated. And more people dare to step up.  I believe  for the Opposition it is not about money.

I also pity Mr. Yeo lost his seat. However, with   Sylvia Lim as only WP heavy weight in AJN when WP scored 43%+ votes in last election, the highest among opp. that’s should ring alarm bell for PAP 5 years ago…now the AJN table has turn the other way...being a foreign minister flying most of the time outside country, that's one of his disadvantage as some residents complaint don't see him often.
Its like chess game, how well you anticipate opp’s move and how and where you plan move, are important. WP waited until last minute nomination day to announce, that’s caught some if not many by surprised…taking a BIG risk to leave comfortable HGN and go to AJN…at the end WP won. Mr. Low has made a clever and daring move with  more good qualified candidates to contest AJN GRC, using his political party capital, judgement and gut feel. Isn’t it a bit like stock market game, buy and sell stock huh ? It’s all part of the game. Who dares win or lose ? But then LKY has said before polling day, losing a GRC is not the end of the world....the AJN residents will live to regret the next 5 years if they  vote WP  ..what else can one say ?

Friend,  you hit right at the point! ($more than 10,000, looks attractive to lure  SOMEONE WHO STAYED IN OVERSEAS FOR  30 YEARS TO COME BACK TO SERVE PEOPLE ??????????    )  I  am not opposition fanatics  , but, the then J B Jeyaretnam in Anson, was  the most respectful    guy who went thru the solo and long battle in parliament. Next we shall see Low and Sylvia's performance which most of singaporeans have high expection of  but given their high calibra, they should be able to match up to expectation.

I wonder in the biz world nowadays, the yi yen zhi, si ma nan chui is still valid most of the time. However, LSL said the govt will upgrade the estate regardless it under the  opposition. I  suppose they had realised that " repenting " brought the reverse result (anger from the voters) and will reflect the mistake. A extremely confident pilot thought his navigating is so right and sound, somehow there might be some mechanism/engine problems in the plane that the first and biz class paxs still have ample oxgen to breath but the economic class paxs facing the lack of oxegen. the loss of the ministers is a pity, but it's the election system designed by the govt so no one to blame and they realised too the setback of this system and is studying it from now on. We people feel bad too that we have to go through this manner to make our govt listen to us a little. Well, if you talk to the PRs or immigrant from the neighbourhood countries, they would say that we are silly, they always said that you guys don't think from the biz sense etc etc. Well, the important point is that we are also weary that ours will be like their's too ie  the head has says and ways to do things  it likes. (I would rather Ma goes instead of George..hehe do  we have a choice.) Let's hope that the WP will do  a good job.

Besides alternative voices, serving people …etc….when MP allowance was $5k long time ago, how many seats were contested and   how many opp came out to contest ? With more money now at $15k/month , isn’t it naturally ONE of the BIG factors to attract more people to consider contesting more seats ? Especially those candidates whose earning   much below that figures, why not give it a try ? Some even opening declared to be Full-Time MPs if elected, good money right ? when candidates contesting make whatever promises, people can tell what they are up to,,,,,,
WP Low has said openly before that he stress on good party discipline and advise its candidates and party members to behave and present themselves well ( DON’T ANYHOW TALK or PROMISE , DON’T ANYHOW ACCUSE PEOPLE without facts or  proof ) so that they can build up a respectable, reliable and credible image to win the public trust and confidence, that I will say, is the winning formula for the WP together with  good and qualified people join with them. Well done, WP.

Human nature very hard to be united because of sacrifices that must be made by some but not all gathered together for a common cause.   I want to be the financial controller and you want to be the chairman, things like that, have always been the hindrances to unite a group of people. Yes, I agree that opposition parties must reduce the number of parties to pull their financial resources, manpower and brain power   together, if they really want to fight and win battles in future. An idea number would be one party or the very most two parties.   They must first build a democracy within their own, have proper by-laws or party constitution that is acceptable to everyone or almost everyone.   Then the future for a real strong vibrant opposition could take the role of offering alternative government capabilities.   Otherwise, they will continue to be minor opposition in parliament.   Thus, opposition parties, please consider what I am saying and work towards this...Cheers..  |

This is  a  PROMISE to nation in the public. and ,  if  more than one opposition parties win some seats in parliament,  you can imagine, differing views from each oppositios parties, could be chaotic. So, lets be realistic, be one united opp party,  no differences BUT,   same value which is  -    Serving people and the nation well.

Not only just the opposition.   Can also be said as encouraging PAP candidates to do something similar. People have different lens to look at things.   Nobody is always right.   But with Chinese culture, a word is a bond and cannot be anyhow spoken if there was never any intention to carry it to the letter. The Chinese businessmen always have the principle of maintaining trust and respecting trust, so when they said something they normally will do it. " Yi yen zhi, si ma nan chui" , (One word out, four steeds unable to chase it back).is usually used to embody a promise that will be honoured.

He is contesting in an Election, he is  pinning down the other groups of oppositions  parties who  never made such a promise. This will become an ISSUE or  SOURCE to quarrel  or    make things difficult for ALL opposition parties  . So, THINK before one speaks. They have much more to learn  from  Worker's party Low thia khiang.
