as predicted 1.04 is solid support price for this counter. but anyone still wanting to get into this boat better bring on ur lifejacket. this one not for the ones who get easily seasick. as elfinchilde mentioned before the BB fight going on intrtnally but i guess the bigger BB might have finally finished shorting his way down and next week should see the momemntum going to the Longs. if only the BB moving Ausgroup decides to move in to Straits Asia as well ahh then might decide to take wife to Australia for a promised vacation finally |

It is making its foray into oil & gas exploration and production (E&P), starting with bids for some producing Indonesian oilfields. The move is part of its plan to become an Asian-focused energy play. It has just set up a team comprising experienced reservoir engineers and geologists, and has also managed to get on board former coordinating minister for finance and economy Rizal Ramli as CEO of its new O&G subsidiary. It is expected that Dr Rizal will accept a position on the Straits Asia board as well. Straits Asia is also looking at participating in potential E&P concessions in Myanmar, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea. It will be tendering for 5 or 6 'brownfield' O&G projects in Indonesia involving enhanced production contracts by mid-year, and involve fields producing from 300 to 3,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil. |

It has secured the rights over a large coal tenement in Indonesia, which initial studies suggest could contain significant outcrops of high calorific value coking coal. SAR said the new Laung project area is potentially very exciting because it forms part of a region that looks set to underpin the next wave of coal supply growth. The new property is located in central Kalimantan, some 50 km east of an existing gold mine that the company operates for its Australia-listed parent Straits Resources. Ongoing studies have identified some 35 outcrops of Eocene coal occuring in a 2 km wide belt, with at least 8 seams of coal. Initial samples suggest the Eocene coal could have calorific value of around 8,000 kcal per kg. It has also discovered another 60 outcrops of Miocene coal, which previous experience suggests could have calorific value of some 6,000 kcal per kg. |

Easton, do you meant that this counter will continue to trend down until the substantial shareholders are done with the offloading? |

just went through the IPO prospectus... StraitsAsia commenced trading on 3 Nov 2006. It is important to note that there are 920,765,220 issued shares which remain unchanged following the IPO. Of these shares 595,215,220 of 64.6% are held by Substantial Shareholders, following the IPO. There is a lock up period of 6 months after the listing date, restricting substantianl shareolders from selling their shares. *Timing is perfect!!* It's exactly just past 6 months lock up period* Bingo! So... the picture is clearer now. (good, learn something everyday) Breakdown of 920,765,220. 64.6% or 595,215,220 owned by Straits Bulk and Industrial Pty Ltd. Alvin David Toms, Ong Chui Chat, martin David Pruvis owns 1m, 0.75m and 0.375m shares respectively, representing 0.2% together. Employees 3.425m (0.4%) Public float 320 mil (34.8%) (post first b4 it disappears)! |

thanks for the insight elfinchilde. the company holds 65 % of the shares. atleast 25 - 30 % all held by BB's. very little float held by the public less than 5% around 30 million or so. this counter is a pure BB counter. but coz of the Australia and mining connection its going to be a favourite of the Foreign BB's. the few Australian companies listed in SGX currently in play, Ausgroup , StraitsAsia. if uve vested below $1 no need to worry i would think. |

eh...i did tell you that there was resistance of the uptrend to cont, and that the consol is 1.03-1.10. if you dared to play, you'd have sold in morn. but aiyah, nevermind, hindsight is always perfect. smile! oh don't worry, i'm quite confident i'll get that hp off you. can perhaps look to buy in at consolidation price. This stock has FA backing, as you noted. k, byes for now! sleepy liao...feel another sore throat coming on. sigh. |

elf: wail!!! COL (crying out loud!) Just kidding. I won't say it didn't affect me a wee bit. That will be lying. To see a 25% profit becoming less. Sure there will a little heartache (just a little, really). However, it didn't affect my decision to stay vested. Brave, foolish? Don't know. I bought b4 the release of USB report more because of the business that they are in. Heng ah, never chase this stock after the release of report. So, now perhaps it will just take longer to get where I wanted. Besides, it is now more complicated as you pointed out re: BBs to fight it out. Wait till the dust settlle, see how. Anyway, thanks for your concern. I still hope I could sponsor the $100 hp . Ha. |

battledome64, aiyah... imitation and still have to pay so much, not worth it and no fun lah. I don't buy expensive imitation. See, if I take out a (fake) Vertu, no one around me will believe I can afford one. Immediately, chim-po. No point. Same like LV... what for? Anyway, thanks for clarification. Phew! I thot I'm really out of touch! |

hm.. eastonbay.. do you see now what i mean by don't trust analysts reports totally, and do what they do, not what they say? cf the 3rd may UBS (?) analyst report posted by my kitten, with target of 1.33, and the previous CGK of 1.37. if you just saw that and rushed bought this morn, you'd be crying now man.... anyhow, did you divest to buy in again, or just sitting pretty? (more like nervy? :P) check out the bu/sd data peeps. something interesting appears to be going on. seems as tho they're trying to force out one/some guys. BB fight BB. hehe. watch from sidelines. 1.13 now. anyone knows what the float of this stock is? |

woah. this baby's dropping faster than expected. current 1.14. way past dividend yield. def something fishy going on. major depression of price: look at the bu/sd data. trymyluck, don't get so caught up by the nos, like i said on previous threads etc, what nos i quoted shd not be taken as concrete, but rather, fluid targets. They're guidelines merely, not stone. Follow the trend. rem that techs are true only when the trend holds true. not so simple as wave theory; not all stocks conform to that. must do a bit of graphical shift to left or right according to each stock, momentum and psychology to be taken into acct. part guess work, definitely. always an unknown element in the market. |

hi elfinchilde, just curious how u come up with potential upside of 1.82 for Straits Asia. would appreciate if u could give a few broad pointers on it. are u using some sort of elliot wave theory and putting a % rise? im not new to TA (have done a basic TA course), am aware of drawing trend lines etc. so im comfortable with predicting a support price 1.04 and a resistance currently 1.3 . but still not sure if TA is always accurate to predict the future never reached price on an up trending stock. after all we all know the BB is lurking around and hes not going to let a counter go all the way up until he has finished accumulation. from the news of second mine, i suspect the BB's will be re-rating this stock and will still do some more accumulation till the next earnings date or next announcement which will only be in August. |

gah. eastonbay, don't worry, i won't hit you for a vertu. $100 good enough already, like i said. plus, a hp is just that, a phone. can call out, receive sms, send sms smoothly, can already. i don't need the other functions. as long as doesn't look too obiang hehe. same as cars what. as long as it can get me from pt A to pt B without breaking down/too slow, i pretty much don't care if it's a porsche or a hyundai. (altho of course, when the former comes around, i'll auto turn around and go ooh! haha) let's put things into perspective: vertu in HK = US$800. that translates at exchange of 1.5 as S$1200. Use $100 to buy hp. use the other 1100 to buy one lot of straitsA when it consolidates (alt top up a bit and buy in). If StA really hits 1.8, you make $700 on top of getting a new hp. It's the rockefeller principle, ppl. "To grow wealthy, you must make your money work harder for you." as you can see from the above, i'm definitely not the clientele profile that vertu is after. haha. of course tho, some things shdn't be saved on, to me. like on friends, family. And yea, it's a qn of value in the end. Altho, yes, value is arbitrary. haha. nites, people. elf needs to go sleep now. sure lack of sleep tmrw already. sigh. ah well! must be bright! cheers! |

deal! Will check in 3 months. Even if it doesn't pan out, I ain't goin' to blame no one, no worries there. One needs to adjust to what actually takes place in the market. So I need to keep an open mind. As I mentioned earlier, I was more curious abt what's your take on BB's action here. Generation gap!!! Oh boy, I'm a post 65er. Actually the later part of 1960s. At least there's one thing in common, don't need expensive hp part. I, too, change hp after the current plans run out, to get it cheap. (but not a miser here, I'm ok with buying round of drinks for friends). |
