F&N profit jumps 23% in Q4 to $120m

LOCAL conglomerate Fraser and Neave (F&N) yesterday reported net profit of $120.3 million for the fourth quarter ended Sept 30, up 23 per cent from the corresponding period last year.

Fourth-quarter revenue rose 4.4 per cent to $1.29 billion.

The Q4 results brought F&N's full-year net profit after fair value gains and exceptionals to $435.8 million - 15 per cent higher than in the year-ago period. This translates to earnings per share of 31.4 cents, against 28.7 cents a year ago.

Before fair value gains and exceptionals items, however, net profit notched up just 0.3 per cent to $379.0 million.

Group revenue for the financial year increased 5 per cent to $4.95 billion.

Shareholders can expect a final dividend of 8.5 cents per share, bringing the full-year dividend to 13.5 cents per share.

'The group's diversified portfolio of businesses has helped to provide stability in earnings,' said F&N's chairman Lee Hsien Yang. 'The food & beverage (F&B) and commercial property businesses, in particular, have proven resilient in previous economic downturns, and have remained strong pillars for the group, delivering continued profit growth.'

Looking at the chart, it is downtrend. However, MACD is flattening out.

Really, the market right now is very tempting, quite low!! Many are near to its NAV.
However, it might be a long wait for bull to come.. so must be able to ride out the dry season ==> Must invest within our means.

In fact, recently BBs have pulled out quite a lot according to some postings in SJ. TA shows bearish mood as well. MA crossover, Williams all bearish. Of course, there is some possibility of small rebounds,  but I'm not traders, so i do not be bothered by any small rebounds. I intend to pick about some lots later on if conds stabilise.

I think just before the US presidential election or after, might have some activities in equity. When is it?? Must watch out for this day.

wow, the mood before US election is bearish!
Looking at the chart, it is downtrend. However, MACD is flattening out.

Good thing we waited. Down today. I think tomorrow will be the same.

TA => high vol today but candlestick red, not a good sign. People selling?
MACD not meeting yet. I'll wait for a while.

I sold off my 2 lots days back @4.8 after reading about vietnam inflation.  I think F&N has something there, not big but enough to scare me. In addition, economy is not very good. Property is no good as well. Also, TA analysis shows downtrending signs, so i got out in time.

I'll wait. Why don't you want for the short-term MA to turn first before committing. That's normally what i do. Can't catch the bottom but at least wait for the trend to go up first.
