Intraday FTSE 100: The setback off the week's 5633.5 high will look to extend to 5386.5. Thursday's weakness confirms Wednesday's bearish hanging man reversal candle, and a push below Thursday's low at 5437.5 is expected to expose the 1.618 Fibonacci extension target at 5386.5. However, key support lies at 5344.0, which is pivotal for the short-term. Only a recovery above 5541.0 would lift the tone, opening 5577.0 and 5607.5.

Weekly chart FTSE 100 trend: Range.

Intraday EURO STOXX 50: Support at 2267.0 is expected to be broken, as the bear wave has scope to extend. A break below Thursday's 2268 low would expose the 1.618 Fibonacci extension target at 2220.0, and backup support lies at 2213.0. However, only below 2213.0 would put bears in control, exposing 2197.0. A recovery above 2341.0 would provide respite, but only above 2375.0 would re-open the week's high at 2404.0.

Weekly chart EURO STOXX 50 trend: Range.

Intraday DAX 30: More weakness to 5667.0 is on the cards, after upgrading this week's bear wave off 6175.0. Thursday's setback left a lower high at 6080.5, and two closely-knit Fibonacci support levels provide a downside target at 5667.0. However, bears need to close the 5532.0/5567.0 upside gap in order to regain control. A recovery above 6007.0 would provide respite, but only regaining ground above 6080.5 would re-open the 6175.0 highs.

Weekly chart DAX 30 trend: Range.

Intraday CAC 40: Projected support at 3016.0 will become the focus, following Thursday's sharp setback. More weakness below 3063.0 is expected to expose the 1.618 Fibonacci extension target at 3016.0, which lies alongside the 50% Fibonacci retracement level of the 2789.5/3244.0 rally. However, only a sustained break below 3016.0 would create additional downside scope to 2896.5. The 3209.0 lower high is protected by resistance at 3151.5.

UK PM: Blocked New EU Treaty Because It Didn't Contain Safeguards

BRUSSELS (Dow Jones)--U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said Friday that the U.K. blocked the creation of a new European Union treaty because it didn't provide the safeguards it wanted on the single market and other key interests.

" Without those safeguards it is better not to have a treaty within a treaty but to have those countries make those arrangements separately," he said following discussions with EU leaders that lasted from dinner on Thursday through to Friday morning.

European Union leaders failed to get all of the bloc's 27 members to back a change in the EU treaty to tighten their fiscal coordination. Instead some decided they would move to form a pact among at least 23 of the members to tighten rules on national fiscal policy.

" What is on offer isn't in Britain's interests so I didn't agree to it," Cameron said.

However, he acknowledged that there were risks in other countries forming a separate agreement within the EU.

" So we will insist the EU institutions, the court, the Commission, that they work for all 27 nations of the European Union. Indeed those institutions are established by the treaty and that treaty is still protected," he said.

some people have trading as their job..and they do their due diligence like studying the company fundamentals and technicals, determine the risk involved and when to cut loss etc before buying or selling.

people who lose in the stock market either dont do their due diligence and buy anything and heavily and relying on pure luck. or just to satisy his ego that he is right. this is equivalent to gambling.

if you win, yes true somebody's life may have been destroyed but it is not your fault..unless you are " manipulating the markets" .

at the end of the day..it is always good to share your blessings.

Chinese Nov. industrial, investment data weak

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Chinese data released Friday afternoon showed the world's second-largest economy cooling more than expected in November. Industrial production for the month rose 12.4% from a year earlier, below forecast gains of 12.8% and 12.5%, according to separate surveys from Reuters and Dow Jones Newswires, respectively. The result marked a slowing from October's 13.2% advance. Urban fixed-asset investment, a closely watched indicator of the Chinese economy, rose 24.5% during the January-November period, easing from 24.9% in January-October, and missing a 24.7% Reuters forecast. Retail sales, however, rose faster in November, gaining 17.3% year-on-year, compared to a 17.2% gain in October.

SYDNEY (MarketWatch) — A closely watched European Union summit has failed to secure the full backing of the 27 nations for treaty changes to help fight the region’s debt crisis by coordinating fiscal policy, according to reports.

Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel arrives at the European Union summit in Brussels.

The reports, citing unnamed diplomats and senior European officials, said that the summit talks would now concentrate on forging an agreement between the 17 euro-zone members and any other countries that wanted to join.

A full agreement fell through after the U.K. asked for concessions that France and Germany weren’t willing to give, according to a Reuters report.

Leaders started what are increasingly being viewed as make-or-break talks for the currency zone at dinner Thursday, and the talks went on into the early hours of Friday morning.

Stocks extended losses in Asia after the report, and the euro EURUSD -0.15% fell to $1.3313, down from $1.3347 in late North American trade Thursday.

Sarah Turner is MarketWatch's bureau chief in Sydney.
