Just for info -- 2300 GMT [Dow Jones] Cosco Corp.'s (F83.SG) 1Q net profit, revenue tipped up nearly three-fold, mainly due to higher gains from deliveries of past shipbuilding and repair contracts, low base of last year, according to Dow Jones poll of 5 analysts; poll tips Cosco 1Q net profit at S$117 million vs S$42 million last year, revenue at S$1 billion vs S$356 million year-earlier. However, analysts say recent news of order cancellation, rising costs of steel, labor likely to weigh on company's results going forward. "Cosco will probably have to clarify on the cancellation of contracts and also on input costs which have been rising," says Praveen Choudhary of Morgan Stanley. Results due after market hours. |

my sincere advise is to wait for the release of result. true test for the support after this, i think the catalyst to break the support will be disappointment of result, i think if din break, then hosay to load in man! |

Cosco fell as investors sold ahead of its first-quarter earnings, dealers said. "Investors could be shortselling in anticipation of lacklustre results," a dealer said. Cosco will announce its first-quarter results on Apr 30. Fellow shipbuilder Yangzijiang fell despite first-quarter net profit more than doubling compared to the same period a year ago. "Yangzijiang's results revealed strains from higher steel prices and I believe this will affect the margins of Cosco as well," said a dealer. Top rig builder Keppel fell a day before its first-quarter results were announced last week and they have fallen about 12% since it posted a smaller-than-expected 4% rise in quarterly profit. |
