Elfin... Your 'TA' comments on Singtel are great... hehe... :) I am very impressed with those... especially the bit which says : [ ..."note too that even before this meltdown, it was on TA downtrend already..."] |

Thank you elf for your swift response. I am aware that Lee Hsien Yang is leaving but I thought the successor (cant remember her name) is also from within the company for many years so should continue to do well. Probably you wont believe it, I am still holding on to my discounted shares though I have a trading account. I just leave it there. No worries as I didnt buy many lots so will just hold on to it for time being. Thank you. |

hm. rickytan... Are you aware that Lee Hsien Yang is leaving as CEO of Singtel from 31st march? He's been very much the driver of singtel. Once he's gone, it might get messy. Internally, singtel is confused now and staff morale affected. Apparently the heads know who is taking over already, but it's kept closely secret. Institutions are selling, that's a red flag already.... second reason to watch against singtel: ppl who managed to get it discounted long time ago have til 31st march to sell it before having to get a broker. Most will sell out at any price since it's a profit, and to avoid the trouble of getting a broker (if you haven't sold your original singtels by now, you're likely someone who doesn't watch the market and with no broker access). all in all, from now til march 31st, it's sellers all the way...TA-wise, i do not see any bottoming out yet....note too that even before this meltdown, it was on TA downtrend already.... The pic for singtel is a bit blur because of all your shortists and contra ppl. But long term as FA, it's on TA downtrend. no prob. can help you monitor once in a while. Won't be able to be online frequently next week tho; on course. Actually, if you're in singtel for a TA trade, my advice is to cut it. Too much institutional cross-fire. Rewards not worth the risk. But again, this is MY call. Pls do make your own. :) |

Hi Elf, thank you for the caution. I am one of those who bought few days ago (bought @ $3.20) and thought of buying some more if price dips further. Please keep us posted further if you are still monitoring it. Xie Xie once again ! |

ppl holding onto singtel pls be very careful. I've tracked this counter since CNY. For the past week there's been very heavy institutional punting on this counter. Lots of 1000 sold and bought. It's being shorted and contra-ed like crazy, but there's also distribution going on (large lots sold consistently more than bought). And a lot of small retail buy ups. Perhaps wise not to get caught in cross-fire of big boys. |

Singtel seems to be on downtrend now. It has broken through the bottom bollinger band and its Acc/Dist and Chaikin charts are not too exciting. |

It fell after the Bharti Group said it had an arrangement to buy Vodafone's "An additional stake in Bharti Airtel could have increased SingTel's portfolio attractiveness and earning prospects; (but) it seems like SingTel is no longer in the picture," said DBSV research analyst Sachin Mittal. |

It extended its losses on Friday on weaker-than-expected quarterly profits. DBSV research analyst Sachin Mittal downgraded the rating to "hold" from "buy" and the target price to $3.60 from $3.80, and said earnings were hit by higher customer acquisition and retention cost. CIMB analyst Kelvin Goh also cut his price target for SingTel to $3.57, from earlier target of $3.88, citing risks of rising costs in Singapore, and higher operational expenses and subscriber acquisition costs from the aggressive rollout of its 3G network in Australia. |

It fell after CIMB maintained a "neutral" rating, saying that the stock lacks further upside. "After outpacing the Straits Times index by 17% over the past three months, we think the ability for SingTel to further outperform may be limited by its all-time high valuations," said CIMB analyst Kelvin Goh in a client note. Goh said SingTel is trading at 15.2x its 12-month forward earnings, its highest PER ever. |

SINGAPORE - South-east Asia's largest telecoms firm Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) rose as much as 4 per cent to a high of $3.62 -- its highest since February 1998 -- on what dealers said were purchases made by institutional investors. A dealer at Kim Eng Securities said fund managers, especially index funds, were buying the stock before its weighting in the Straits Times Index is increased on Monday as part of a regular review of the index components. Singapore Press Holdings, which maintains the STI, said on Wednesday that it has changed the composition and weight factors of several component stocks in the index -- changes that would come into effect with the start of trading on Monday Feb 5. . SingTel's weight factor in the index was raised to 0.45, from its current weight of 0.35, SPH said. SingTel was one of the most actively traded stock, and saw 10.7 million shares changing hands. -- REUTERS |
