Company has commenced an overhaul of its procurement system for its Soup Restaurant chain. The move is aimed at shortening the supply chain and to reap greater economies of scale through bulk purchases. The Group expects to reduce Soup Restaurant?s food costs significantly. This probably will help the 2013 and 2014 net profits significantly. Buy 2 lots and you get special VIP discount card Your 2 lots may be worth a lot more since company is so confident to keep buying back own shares. Mgt seems very positive about the future and do not mind buying and buying....some big plans in place. Stay Tune if you are invested. 30 cent imminent |

CASH 2013 Half year results CASH 12,636   2012 Cash and cash equivalents 16,496 2011  16,402   It is still loaded with a lot of cash. Put in banks are useless...Use it to expand now maybe not so as to be prudent So the best way is to buy back own shares. The higher the share price, the less the supply, the more valuable the company will be. This is another form of strategy to borrow cheaper monies from banks in future because of higher valuation of company based on its market Cap. Furthermore, some unknowns are also accumulating quietly. More and more likely there will be a breakout of snatch and snatch situation once supply gets limited |

It doesn't seems anyone out there is ready to launch a takeover for SOUP....except number 1 SSH MR MOK The only very well known SSH but which has in recent years been very quiet after being  oldtimer of O& G industry is none other than number 18 Tan Kim Seng. Is he scooping up SOUP shares? Any possibility but he is just holding 0.34% unless he accumulates 5% he has to declare.   1 MOK YIP PENG 65,543,600 21.96 2 WONG CHI KEONG 48,952,300 16.40   3 WONG WEI TECK 41,091,900 13.77   4 MAYBANK NOMINEES (S) PTE LTD 30,223,000 10.12   5 AMFRASER SECURITIES PTE. If a company is quite profitable and has generated a huge amount of cash, and it?s sitting on this cash, the company needs to determine how it will be allocated.   It could use this money for investing in new projects, or to pay off debt, or leave it sitting in a bank account, or it could pay out as dividends to investors. The company has to decide what the best return will be for their cash.  They will consider different projects (eg. buying new factories, refurbishing head office etc) and then calculate whether the investment will generate a decent enough return to justify using the cash. So the company is asking itself, what shall I do with this money? Often, they will have a look at their own compnay and realise the best place to invest the money is back into their own shares. Effectively what the company is doing, is going back out into the market and saying, ?I?m going to be buying back my own shares, because that is the best place to put this investment?. There are differences of opinion here, because some investors will say, rather than buy back your own shares, why don?t you just pay it out as dividends to other investors? It is a dilemma that a lot of companies are facing right now, because they have a lot of profits.  They have a lot of cash sitting on the sidelines, and they don?t know what to do with it.  Ideally it would be great if they reinvested this money back into the economy, and make their businesses grow, but they?re saying, we don?t know whether or not the returns from those are going to be justifiable to investors. So some companies are thinking let?s just go back and buy our own shares. Or some of them are saying, let?s just give a special dividend to investors. What is means is that they?ve got too much cash. |

WHY DOES MANAGEMENT OF SOUP RESTAURANT KEEP BUYING BACK OWN SHARES IN OPEN MARKET? It is buying  back shares either to increase the value of shares still available (reducing supply), or to eliminate any threats by shareholders who may be looking for a controlling stake. Is there any shareholder be it existing or new ones out there who is looking to gain a controlling stake? From the volume, it looks like there is someone out there who may be accumulating more and more of this shares. Could management be scrambling for more shares higher and higher in value? It looks like they are doing so creating new buyback high price again and again. When the company has profits that it is willing to pay out to shareholders, the amount of money is divided by the number of issued shares. By buying back shares, the number of issued shares is reduced. When the company divides the total dividend amount by fewer shares, the amount of dividend paid out per share is increased. This is a positive indicator to investors that makes the company more attractive to investors. When company management buys back company stock, it shows that company management considers the stock to be value priced. It shows that management knows when the stock is value priced. So when investors see the company doing a buyback, they will look at the stock more closely and are more likely to purchase it. By buying back shares of a company, management may be showing it is preparing to purchase another company or trying to protect itself against a takeover from another company. Offering shares of company stock as an incentive to shareholders is a common element in one company's purchase of another company. So if a company owns more shares of itself, it can offer more in a buyout deal. Also, if there are fewer issued shares in a company, it means there are fewer shares available for another company to begin buying them up in order to take over the company. |
