The trend is your friend. So if the " trend" is up, your stocks will make money.  If the " trend" is down, your shorts will make money. So depending on which trend you are locked in, an opposite trend will cause you to lose money.  Only the right " trend" that you are in will make money for you.  Thus you must choose the right " trend." to make money. |

if you think it is still on the uptrend, than it is ok to buy on dip....BUT the question is will sti reverse back to downtrend ? it is now dancing around 3000+-+- Quote " In the medium term, if the global economy is stronger than we expect, stocks will rise. If the global economy is weak as we expect, stocks will  still rise, as we will have a wave of policy induced liquidity from the west, plus a fiscal stimulus from China. The only situation where stocks will  not rise is a recession, which is not our 2012 base case (slowdown not recession). Thus, on the hope of policy stimulus, in the medium term,  markets are more likely to use corrections as opportunities to load up. Whether it’s the last gasp of this cycle, or the beginning of a new cycle is  debatable. " Source: Phillip SR Note.//

Last nite US mkts closed red, VIX closed at 21+. Risk has gone up abit. Today asian mkts gapped down at open. Let's see how  HK and Shanghai  open. Most STI counters are at tipping point (daily MACD), unless  buyers continue  to buy and buy and prop them up. At this point is it still buy on dip? or should we risk off for a while, until greece is cleared? |

Over the years, I have come across not few but many stock newbies who lost money playing stocks.     It is a very sad thing to see them struggling to keep up with the pressures of their daily life and               yet suffering losses in their forays into the stock market. But on the other hand, the stock                     market is also a great teacher. It not only teaches one about the nature of the market, but                           more importantly, it teaches one the importance of mastereing one's inate human nature... ![]()

As at now VIX is 20.62, up from yesterday's closing of 19.64. Dow is slightly red, Nasdaq and S& P  are trading  slightly  higher than yesterday. Seems some caution has set in, perhaps due to greece.   |

Clap clap clap, must watch! Thx monk. Kudos to this courageous and visionary British politician  who dared to speak out against the institution of EU.  He's not only spot on, he's eloquent, very watchable! Luckily in asia we did not form something so stupid as a common currency, thk LKY. |

" It's the dilemma that Greece and the others are now facing," says Stancil. " The ailing nations are starting to figure out what the other path is, and that it's extremely tempting. It's painful, but it may be the best of only bad options." If those countries decide to do what's best for them, not what they're being told, the " Exit route" will prevail. For every month the crisis lingers, the more alluring the exit looks. teeth53 thot: Is all eye on Greece's...as ECB and IMF add more pressure. |

http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2012/02/15/greece-economic-reforms/?iid=HP_LN Greece's problems aren't all about debt. They're about competitiveness, and changing the arcane rules in areas from the cruise industry to pharmaceuticals would help it reboot its economy.labor market, Resort development Pharmaceuticals, trucking industry and    cruise industry. In conclusion, it's clear that Greece is only embracing these widely reviled reforms under intense pressure. It may indeed choose the route of exiting the euro over the pain of staying the course. But after two years of fiddling, it's finally making the right moves. The Greek tragedy is that it may be too late. not to sound too sarcastic here, cimb reports are meant for " green horns" only. no serious investors trust cimb bcos they r always wrong.  just too many such bad calls. e.g. 1 cimb analyst by the name of siewkhee.lim@cimb.com repeatedly downgrade kepcorp n sembmarine to sell with TP $7 and $3.30 respectively even till now when their respective share prices are way above these level. Investors who did the opposite hv much to cheers.

Thk you ipunter sifu! Let's make this thread useful for everyone, where everyone can come here, post updates, exchange info and ideas.  By the way, last nite VIX rose a little to 19.54. This is not an alarming level, compared to VIX at 46  on 9th Aug 2011  (our National Day) when US was downgraded and mkts crashed. |
