Suicide case after stock turmoil these few days?!?

Frankly I feel the stock market is not suitable for everybody. It is not just about whether you go through the Genie by Mani or you go study FA, TA etc. It is more than that. I have this friend who told me he never sells a share if the price goes down after he buys. "Die die" he will never sell. |

nickyng: Believe, from your tone, that you didn't mean it. It's just that "suicide" is not a matter to joke about. People can do really silly things when they are emotionally fragile. Let us ALL learn to be more sensitive. |

What a shocking title.....  In this market condition, whether you are FA or TA person, you will get hurt. Lesson learned here is to always use stops to cut loss. Also, let's not lose perspective here.... after all it is just MONEY... it can be earned back again. NOTHING is worth the price of your life or happiness. If you feel overly depressed, maybe you are not suited for the stock market. |

The stock market is really about life (and death)... It is not just about investing... if one 'invests' bigly, then huge desperation can result. The same applies to casinos... Casino-related desperation is similar to stock market desperation...

Dear forum friends, Nicky may mean no harm but often the act of suicide is an irrational spur of the moment impulsive tought. The very sight of this thread title might be enough to spur a thought in those contemplating the action. We must be careful. We've never had pple jump onto MRT tracks for many years since MRT is in service ...now it seems there is a trend...the idea has been triggered. |

gosh...wat an innocent post i had here been twisted until as if i am GLOATING over someone's misfortune...gee..... damn..i shld've been more sensitive with wat i said....oh well...wat i am trying to say with margin calls and -ve sentiment all around..mkt will get more depressed....so stay away....let those billions or millions BBs..trader..investors fought it out..and when they are done...we go in and pick their leftover..bruised..stocks...hee... |

I agree that we should not be gloating over other people's misfortune. If we make money during this downtrend, we should be happy and just keep it to ourselves. Not many people know how to short sell well, therefore most people in this forum will be rather upset. Short selling differs from buying long in some aspects and there aren't many books on the book shelves on them. Most books will only give you the vague outline about short selling, or either the fundamentals of a nice stock to short. After saying all this, I still find it shocking for people to hope. Hope alone would not push the stock market from the bear region to the bull region. There is a rule of thumb to follow for me. Do NOT be an unwillingly investor. Just because the stock does not go your way, you change your tone from a speculator to an investor. This is the worst thing that can happen. It is like being in denial and being in denial will not let you learn any lessons from it. The first and hardest thing to do, is to admit you were wrong and then you can learn from it. |

Hi Nickng, you might be profiting now, but you are only a winner only if u take ur profit and exit the mkt and nv come back.. if not, u r a winner yet cos its a long term game.. and i do believe wat goes around comes around.. Do not gloat at others misfortune. Of cos we do not wan to see any tragedy from happening. |

A story of 2 men walk out of a casino with losses of $100K. First man is a millionaire, while the other earns $2000 per month. Both have the same problem, that is they had lost $100K to the casino. The millionaire will feel nothing at all although it's a pinch. But the other man sees it's the end of the world.....The morale of this story is how you would choose to see the same problem, in a different way. Afterall it's just money, not life. There are a lot more thing in life other than $$. Although $$ is an important component in our life, but to live each day and seeing tomorrow is more precious. Your family is waiting for you at home. Dun forget that the happiest people on earth are those from the poor or 3rd world country. Yea, agree, its a matter of CHOICE. How can a rich man be happy if he's bed ridden or lying in a hospital bed waiting to pass-out? Also, how can a poor be happy if he can't even feed himself not to mention his family? I will leave it open. |

hm...difference of opinion, altho interesting to see how ppl's views differ tho... i think what's pitiable is one who believes his/her life is valuable only with money. of course, not to be too pollyana that 'no money, also can survive!', since that's not realistic. but my point is, misery is a choice, just as happiness is a choice. it all depends on what one chooses to be: money's got nothing to do with character. jackjames, relax lah. with your skills, am sure you can make back. cheers! :) |
