In the past, our little red dot's position was considered a strategic location at the East-West crossroad, resulting in a booming trading post administered by the British Empire. Then we enjoy many years of relative peace in Asean, thanks to General Suharto (regardless of what the Indonesians see him now, he presided Asean in peaceful co-existence for over 30 years). With his passing, Asean is now a co-operative grouping only on the surface. The undercurrent politics is mainly one of distrust and envy, especially among the original Asean members, comprising Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore and Brunei. Most of us would recall that we were first labelled as an insignificant little red dot on the may by Suharto's successor, Habibe. So what has been a strategic position, it may turn out that we are now located in a dilinquent neighbourhood. The regional politics must be watched closely because they have far reaching ramifications!! Lest not forget that the 1997 Asian Financial crisis, started in Thailand with the devaluation of the baht. So what was once a Land of a thousand smiles may turn out to be a Land that sends financial and political turmoils across thousands of miles. |

Hmmm..... If Thai big big BBs don know how to look after Thai interest by oni targetting at TatShin to get even, it is going to be a very big failure on Thai side sooner co's Others like Paktan's is interested in S$$$, Qatar oso verh rich but oso interest in S$$$ (S28-Money page). Even South Johor Investment Company (SJIC) need RMS50 billion over next 5 years and RM$60 billion to built Iskandar Development Region (IDR-plan include a new administrative centre for Johor Ind zones, education, medical and tourism hubs) Nusajaya Township linking to 2nd link (Jurong) See page S3-prime. ST paper 24--2-07). Singapore is maybe small in size, but is definately very big in value |

They should adopt the "New Village" method used by the British in 1950s to get rid of the communists. But, of course must do it with modification as there was no mobile phone then. |

hehe, sporeguy, it's the same scenario that america pulled with iraq. a 'wag the dog' situation to distract the domestic public from the real problem. we're just the whipping boy in the political situation. sigh. i think the south situation is out of control already. Not even a muslim head of army and constant visits could control them. actually, not even thaksin could. very very tricky since it can spill over regionally. malaysia is on its guard already (Shared borders). Singapore, i can assure you, is keeping a very close watch on the situation. |

The Thai Junta should know that the biggest problem is the terrorist attacks by the separatist in the south. They should be concentarting on that. Leave the running of the country to the civillians. They are being used by the the Democrats. In turn, the army are using this to cover their failure in the south. Looks like it is time to change the supreme head of the army because i do not think he is interested in solving the real problem. |

Hmmm .... Hope this won't trigger a regional sell-down by the BBs as an excuse to bail out of Asia. We surely don't want another of the 1997 Asian finaicial crsis again in 2007!!! :P |
