There are a few school of thoughts on this one. By saying this, you pointing to the fact that the oil price spike is largely due to speculation and there is little correlation to oil supply issue. In my opinion while there is much speculation, there is a more serious fundamental problem with oil supply. I believe oil prices will remain high or even continue to prople to new high. I could not see how oil supply can improve drastically and hence any drop in prices is likely to be short lived.

There are players on SGX, Kepcorp,Kepland, SPC( the former 3 are inter-related) Venture and SPC. AK hv no fear on these few counters, being given hefty Div, less SGX I didn't hold any. Kepcorp got panic selling, observed the trend. 1215-1225 got huge blocking activities at 1168 and 1164 respectively. At 1164, it had dropped 34 cts as compared to the intended div of 55cts given. Then my gut feeling was that it may drop a bit further, reaching the net already. Hence, at 1225, I Q at 1162 to test my view, hope it will kena during the adjust phase. Fine, glad to see it I was not wrong when checked the order status, after a few glasses of beer with old fr lunch break. So, Kepcorp, just like other counters, may suffer knee jert once there is rpt of profit deficit. But don't be panic, its a very good Coy as AK highlight to query rasied by someone earlier. |

Ozone2002 says it's political, may I ask of evidence to support that remark? :P Until a substitute fuel source is found, oil prices are northward-bound, including that of bio-fuels. Look at the prices on all current Petrol and BioFuel Counters - by that I mean US and SG. Their current share prices are a testament of the current situation. In essence, let's all refrain from making any unfound / baseless statements, and I'm sure everyone benefits from it. (^_^). Fuel Counters? I'm Vested. |

A joker from one of the local bank researh arms. Joker also lifted current TP from 7.27 to 7.84. Zao Bao business update, page 28. Ofcourse, the price will dip after XD loh, so far I never encounter any of my portfolio jumps up after XD. How long it takes to reach the TP forecasted by this joker, he himself also dun know lah. Any forecast by analyst are for long term investment, not for short term or shorting. Believe all this figures, up to individual leow loh. 06 n 07, I kept SPC after FY div and later collected the interim div 6 mths later. Cheers. |

Grangemouth: on the brink...The BBC report Wednesday evening that talks have broken down between Ineos, the operators of the Grangemouth oil refinery in Scotland and Unite, the trade union representing workers at the refinery who are threatening to strike Sunday and Monday over a dispute about adjustments to their pension scheme. Grangemouth lies at the end of the Forties oil pipeline system that gathers oil (and liquids) from oil and gas fields throughout a large area of the Central North Sea. Whilst Grangemouth processes around 200,000 bpd the pipeline system handles around 700,000 bpd and according to this CNN report, a BP spokesman has said they may have to shut down the whole pipeline system. With the global oil market and European gas market already stretched, the impact of this dispute may reverberate around the world. Why Grangemouth is importantGrangemouth is much more that an oil refinery. Originally operated by BP, Grangemouth became an integral part of the Forties oil production, transportation, refining and export system. BP has since sold the Forties oil field to Apache corporation and the refinery to Ineos but it still operates the pipeline and a number of the oil and gas fields that feed into it. Ineos have reported that if the refinery is closed it may take over a week to restart. So a two day dispute over pensions may have a disproportionate impact. If as reported by CNN, the whole Forties pipeline system were to close then this will shut down about half of the UK oil and a significant amount of gas production. World oil supplies are already stretched and this will push prices even higher - but the UK will be able to buy oil on the international market. I have heard that BP is trying to determine whether the Hound Point terminal has the storage capacity to handle the flow and offload from there without taking the system down. The thinking is, if only the Grangemouth refinery shuts down, and Hound Point and its oil storage facility operate normally, oil and gas production losses could be minimised. The situation with natural gas is much different. Prices have been rising steadily this year betraying tightness in the European and Global gas markets. At the end of the winter UK and European gas storage is run down and the UK may struggle to maintain gas supplies. Domestic users need not worry since they will always be the last to get cut off. But in the event of a natural gas shortage, those industrial users who pay the reduced interruptible supply tariff may just find their supplies interrupted. Consequences for fuel supplies in Scotland and North EnglandGrangemouth is the only oil refinery in Scotland producing gasoline, diesel, fuel oil and jet fuel for the whole of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England. UK has ample stocks of refined fuel and so the real issue for Scotland is the distribution of these stocks. This has been the main focus of the main stream news thus far and panic buying has already led to local gasoline shortages and profiteering at the pump. |

Oil price has dropped from $118 to $116. This will create more selling pressure for SPC tomorrow.

Not often loh. Learning fr friends that big coy normally maintain their status and generally provide good vanue and foods/drinks for the shareholders esp they earned big profit in the preceeding yr. SPC profit drops 12% but coy still change their policy as the reason given above. The 3 local banks, given hefty div one, definitely they will not treat the shareholders badly. Ventures is another one. This coming Fri morning I got Kepland and Gent Int AGM as well, but not attending. Kepld AGM commences at 10.30, likely they will provide buffet lunch after the meeting. Gent Int, I attended last yr one, light refreshments loh. Share holders voted total around 1.over million buy back share but board didn't give timeline. As Chairman mentioned that the execution of the buy back depends on the market performance and other issues. |
