Cosco Q2 profit slumps to s$31.9 million after 74% increase in tax payments Singapore-listed Chinese shipbuilder Cosco Corp said yesterday its secondquarter net profit more than halved due to higher tax payments and weaker performance of its dry bulk shipping and shipyard operations. Net profit for the three months ended June 30 was s$31.9 million, down from s$68.4 million in the corresponding period a year earlier, Cosco said. Revenue rose 3.5 per cent in the second quarter to S$996 million. The company paid s$25 million in income tax in the quarter, a 74-per-cent increase, due to changes in the tax exemption status of its shipping profits and the reduction of tax breaks to some of its units, it added. Cosco’s order book now stands at US $7 billion (s$8.4 billion), with deliveries scheduled through the first half of 2014, it said, adding that it received new orders amounting to US $1.8 billion in the January-June period this year.
