Longcheer One fund manager said Longcheer may sell 20m shares at $0.98 each -- or a discount of 6.7% to Friday's closing price of $1.05. A married deal of 20m shares was also done at 09:34 am at a price of $0.98. Longcheer could not be reached for comment, but an analyst, who declined to be named, said he understood that Longcheer would announce a share placement on Monday or Tuesday. |

It's worrying that PBT margin decline from 11.6% in 4Q05 to 8.8% in 4Q06, which could spell the start of a worrying trend in margin compression as competition intensifies. The competition in the design solutions arena will become more intense as the segment is currently too lucrative (as evidenced by the high ROE of > 60% for Longcheer). Competition will come from existing competitors, as well as OEM/ ODM players who begin to move up the value chain and offer more design solutions. The launch of 3G has once again been delayed but will most likely happen prior to the Olympics in mid-08. A good bet will be the launch of 3G towards the end of CY07 or beginning of CY08. This delay and the uncertainty in its timing could see mobile phone manufacturers becoming more prudent in introducing new models into the market in CY07 and this could affect Longcheer's business during CY07. Westcomb reduced its price target to $1.38 on possible signs of slower growth and margin pressure. |

Earnings grew 100% yoy. DBSV's expectations of a 57% growth in sales driven by higher shipment and market share gain is supported by a larger customer base, overseas expansion and the introduction of 3G and digital mobile TV broadcasting networks in 07. As competition continues to intensify and product cycles shorten, DBSV believes the role of independent design houses will expand further. The company proposed a 1.56 cents final dividend, on top of a 4.16 cents payout it had made earlier this year. "We believe dividend payout is sustainable and both the payout ratio and the quantum could increase as earnings rise, and signals management intent to actively return excess cash back to shareholders," DBSV said in a client note. DBSV said that the pace of earnings growth at the company could result in higher payouts. It believes there could be another special dividend for auspicious reason nearer the Chinese Spring Festival in Jan. It has a price target of $2.00. |

Thanks for the timely information. I was very tempted to move in on the counter having seen it corrected more than 20% from the most recent high of $0.89. I guess it is better to look at another counter. |

China Techfaith, Longcheer's major competitor fell 14% after it said that 2Q sales and profit was less than forecast. Net profit of $4m was below forecast of $8.5m. This reflects shortfall and delays in testing and winning international carriers' approval for its smart phone. The transition period which was expected to be confined to 1Q extended into 2Q. This reflects the very difficult operating environment for mid and low end handsets in China, especially after the poor sales for May day holidays and Nokia's suit against several local players. This may not bode well for Longcheer. Longcheer has significantly outperformed China Techfaith in the last couple of months, but before that, both used to trade in line with each other. See chart below. Longcheer's price may fall and move in line with China Techfaith's. As Longcheer is 1/3 the size of China Techfaith, its PE valuation has historically been pegged at 40-50% discount to China Techfaith. Currently, Longcheer is trading at a forward PE of 6-7x versus 10-11x for China Techfaith. |

Nokia sued 2 of Longcheer's rivals for allegedly copying the design of one of its phones (Nokia 7260) and then selling it. |

I am quite encouraged by the resilience shown by Longcheer and the rest of the China Stocks, so far, considering that yesterday was a Friday, with the dow being down, etc, it was normal for traders to lock in profits or square their positions. Next week will be significant, with the fed deciding on interest rates on wed-thurs, with the consensus going for a 25 basis point increase. It will be a surprise to the mkt if there is a 50 basis point increase, and i think that will cause a rally in mkts globally (for a short while anyway), as it may signify an end to the rate hike. Coming back to longcheer, as long as it stays above the low of 0.825 (closing price), I would maintain a long position, if i am already in the mkt. |

technically, Longcheer looks like a buy, with stop loss at yesterday's low of 0.775. The high this morning correspond to the interesection of the 100 day ma and 20 day ma. (ma normally acts as resistance, when a stock has fallen below it). Ideally, Longcheer should hopefully clear 0.85 and hit the stronger resistance level of 0.89-0.90 cents. |

Thanks hikitty. I think most of us are aware of that. The target price given by the reports through SGX website normally is for 12-month target. Even though they are through SGX website (more controlled unlike those through words of mouth), most people will not aim at 100% of the target price. Need to use TA indicators to track. |

Hi S'poreguy and other forum participants - Pse take targeted prices of shares set by broking houses, fund managers or researchers with a pinch of salt. They may have an axe to grind. Moreover the exact time frame for the targets is often not stated. "Neratel" has that dubious distinction as two broking houses had in 2004 targeted the stock's fair price as 64 cents. It has never even once hit that target after the report.. |

Luzhou volume is larger than Longcheer, its MA7 is cutting upwards MA14. Likewise Longcheer is having the same, but slightly later by a few days. I have a feeling that Longcheer daily volume will catch up with Luzhou. |

It would be good if some banks or brokerage firms can start an index for the many China firms that are listed in Spore. |
