x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Share with you on CIMB's report Cosco Corporation ($0.93) - More casualties We lower our FY08 net profit estimate down to S$310m (-8% yoy) following Cosco’s recent lower earnings guidance. We believe that customer credit risk has heightened as more ship owners are negotiating for delays in progressive payments due to the credit financing drought. Deteriorating shipping demand-supply economics has pulled freight rates down to near break-even levels and this could cause ship owners to delay taking delivery of new vessels to avoid operating at a loss. Earnings estimates cut by 15 to 30% for FY08–FY10, as we factor in more delays, lower ship building margins and lower order win assumptions. Accordingly, our target price is cut to S$0.58 from S$0.80, still based on sum-of-the-parts valuation. Maintain Underperform. It is way below my buying price of 70c....

The company's shipbuilding subsidiaries recently received requests for delays in making payment by several ship owners. Accordingly, provisions will have to be made for doubtful debts. As well, the group has faced higher costs for its shipbuilding and offshore marine contracts. Cosco's full-year 2008 results will be released on Feb 23, 2009.
