Sometimes you get a run of strong economic figures because the economy really is picking up, but sometimes it just happens at random.

Investors not shaken by economySINGAPORE - Singapore investors have turned slightly upbeat on the outlook of the stock market.A recent survey by on JPMorgan on investor confidence showed that about four in 10 polled plan to increase their investments in the second half of the year. This compares with the 16 per cent of respondents who plan to reduce their market exposure, compared with 25 per cent in JPMorgan's previous survey in January. Experts said the overall mood in the market will remain cautious on lingering concerns over Europe's debt crisis. So far, though, trading volumes on the Singapore Exchange have been quite bullish. " In the second quarter in April it was a high month. On one particular day in April we saw seven billion shares being traded, but on average it was still very healthy at three billion. I believe that is probably one of the highest in history," said Mr Terence Wong, Executive Director of DMG & Partners Research. " (However), the value of the shares on the average daily basis was only about S$1.2 billion, which sort of indicates that a lot of shares being traded were microcaps," Mr Wong said. Experts said this optimistic yet cautious stance is likely to continue unless more good news arrive from abroad. Both the United States and China are expecting a transition of leadership, which may further lift investor spirits. For China at least, experts hope news will arrive as early as October. " There is a new group of leaders taking over in October. Hopefully … after October we will see some strength in the Chinese economy through the loosening of monetary policies," said Mr Roger Tan, Chief Executive Officer, SIAS Research. JPMorgan's survey already shows that interest in the US as an investment category in the second half has picked up, climbing to 17 per cent from 10 per cent in the previous poll. Said Mr Brian Tan, Head of Retail Sales, JPMorgan Asset Management: " If you look at the data points from the US, yes, they're quite mixed but essentially our view is you will see positive growth from the US. If you look at the impact of the euro zone on the economy in the US, the impact is very, very small it's only about 2 per cent and due to exports to the euro zone. So the US will be less affected than other countries." |

It is always the case that there are as many optimistic business people and laymen as there are many pessimistic ones.  So that is why they make the markets.   I believe there had been too many pessimism in the last five to seven years.  I only yearn for a few good optimistic years. Hahaha.

http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/03/investing/China-investment.moneymag/index.htm?iid=HP_LN (Money Magazine) -- Don't believe all the negative headlines about China - and there have been plenty lately. Sure, growth in the world's 2nd-largest economy is expected to slow this year, to 8% from 9.2% last year and 10.4% in 2010. Still, that doesn't exactly qualify as a " hard landing" - especially given anemic U.S. growth forecasts of 2% to 3%. The most promising opportunities are keyed to the changing nature of China's expansion. Until recently, its economy largely grew on the back of strong exports to Europe and the U.S. Now, says Michelle Gibley, director of international research for Charles Schwab, " China is transitioning to a consumer-led economy." To invest, says Pham, is via an exchange-traded fund that tracks corporate debt of multinationals in China. Several firms have issued " dim sum" bonds, denominated in the yuan and traded in Hong Kong. |
