IMF to cut growth outlook this year: Lagarde
04:47 AM Jul 07, 2012 " Over the past few months, the outlook has regrettably become more worrisome," IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said in a speech in Tokyo. " Many indicators of economic activity - investment, employment, manufacturing - have deteriorated. And not just in Europe or the US." The " key emerging markets" of Brazil, China and India are showing signs of slowdown, Ms Lagarde said. Those three countries along with Russia will comprise more than 20 per cent of the world economy this year, according to IMF data. The IMF will downgrade some of its economic forecasts in its World Economic Outlook report on July 16, she said. In April, the IMF revised upward its global growth forecast for this year to 3.5 per cent from 3.3 per cent in January. Agencies |

Investigators probe mystery disease killing Cambodian children updated 3:50 PM EDT, Fri July 6, 2012
Dozens of Cambodian children have died of an illness that doctors are trying to diagnose. " They die because their lungs are destroyed," one doctor says. Most of the children have been younger than 3.
The World Health Organization and Cambodian health officials are investigating why at least 61 children in the country have died mysteriously after suffering severe neurological and respiratory complications. .......... |

In last week, STI gain a solid 101 points from the opening of 2878 and close higher at 2979. A white candle sticks with little upper shadow indicates investors have no qualm buying higher. Key Economics Data report: In the coming week, the second quarter US earnings season kicks off with just a few reports, but they will be important early looks at whether the fallout from Europe and the slower global growth is hurting corporate. After Friday’s disappointing U.S. June payrolls, Thursday’s weekly jobless claims will be monitored as will the minutes of the last Federal Reserve meeting Wednesday. But more important is a batch of fresh Chinese data, starting off Monday with inflation and export data, and winding down Friday with GDP, retail sales, and industrial output.
