Mainboard-listed transport operator, ComfortDelgro, says its second quarter net earnings edged up 0.9 percent to 57.3 million dollars.

But revenue for the three months ended June fell 4 percent to 758.3 million dollars, mainly due negative currency effects of the weaker Sterling and Australian dollar.

The company says revenue growth was broadbased at the operating level in both geographical and segmental terms.

It saw increases coming from the business in Australia, China and Britain.

In Singapore, revenue from its bus services unit, SBS Transit, fell by 6.6 percent to 168.9 million dollars in the quarter.

This was a result of a temporary fare reduction, increase in the transfer rebate and a decrease in ridership.

But net profit of the unit more than doubled (eds: 111.9%) to 13.5 million dollars, as fuel and electricity costs as well as other operating expenses declined.

Looking ahead, ComfortDelgro says as global economic conditions remain uncertain, it will continue to focus on the demand patterns of its customers.
