I believe the usual way to do proper trading with risk management is this way :

Example :100k starting capital

Put half, ie. 50k tucked safely away in bank account, don't touch it.

Trade with the other 50k.

You make 5k with this 50k, now you have 55k.

Put half of the profits away in bank account.

Bank account : 52.5k, trading account 52.5k : total 105k

You trade using 52.5k. Lets say now u lose  3.5k, your trading account will have 49k

If you lose another 3k, your trading account now has 46k. 

Your bank account remains with 52.5k. Remember, never touch this money for trading.

Worst case scenario, you lose your entire trading account, and quit the stock market. You go home with your 52.5k in your bank. At least you are not in debt and can continue life normally with a job.

Losing your entire trading account also probably means the stock market is not for you.

Assuming you managed, somehow or other, to recover what you have lost,

    I stlll hope you will not treat playing shares as a source of income.

      I say this because, as you become more and more skillful in playing shares,

         you will definitely not want to continue to make 'kacang' gains anymore.

            Thus, as your confidence and ability grow, you will not want to waste time.

                You will want to make in less than a week what you have been making in two or three months.

                   But unfortunately, the stock market does not work that way.

                      In fact, the more skilfull (and thus more confident) you are, the more you will likely lose.

                         Such is the nature of stock speculation. Do remember this forever...
