What I've Learned: Donald Trump Work hard to take the gamble out of the gamble. Going through tough times is a wonderful thing, and everybody should try it. Once. Fighting for the last penny is a very good philosophy to have. My children have shown me that they are willing to work hard to become successful. That's very important. Because when children grow up in wealth, you always have doubts. I've never understood why people don't go after the alcohol companies like they did the tobacco companies. Alcohol is a much worse problem than cigarettes. CEO compensation has gotten outrageous. Some of these guys come into these big, monster, powerful companies, and all of a sudden they're making $40, $50, $60 million a year. It's one thing if you create a company and you start from scratch. But some of these companies have been around for a hundred years. You increase the price of a bottle of ketchup by one penny and you look like a genius. It seems ridiculous. The solution? Have the people who own the stock vote on it. http://www.esquire.com/features/what-ive-learned/ESQ0104-JAN_CEOSThe most important things in life are your relationships and your health. |

i thought it was a pretty interesting topic about the doctor-leader .. thoughts coming from a 99 years old surgeon .. yeah u are right .. in any sample/group/profession there will be the good, the bad and the ugly .... i suppose .. the most important thing is the concern for the welfare of the people ...then anyone can be a leader ... : ) ( OneSharer .... thanks for the compliments : ) ) |

Thanks for the support. Sometimes I think we tend to look out/up for hero or heroine when he/she may be so close to us. Baseerahmed, don't mean to drag your mom into this -- it was suppose to be a compliment. |

Would the person who gave me a bad post like to share his/her view. Are you so supportive of doctors, not interested in searching out a good doctor, or just don't think baseerahmed's mother can also be a candidate to make the world a better place?

baseerahmed, Very interesting post....all we need is some time to think about the depth of the words. It is very idealistic in the present world we live in, where most of us are rushing here and there, and multi-tasking. I do agree tat when we pause and think, and somehow think with the welfare of others in mind, this will be a better world, or society to live in. However, it's really a reality vs idealistic world. Still, we shall all attempt to. |

Hi colorado, Thanks! Actually I've been there too. I believe we stayed at the same lodge. There's a fireplace in the huts right? I remember reading a book by the fire while looking out into the lake. Very shiok!

One of the rarest things that we do is think. I don't know why people don't do it more often. It doesn't cost anything. Think about that If world leaders were doctors, I think they would be more concerned with the welfare of people. There would be less poverty. There would be medical care for everybody, no matter whether people paid for it or not. In any good society, every member should be interested in the health of every other member. Because if any member is unhealthy, it's a burden on the society. I don't think the difference between ninety-nine and a hundred is important. The best lesson my mother taught me involves an orphanage we had in town. Every Sunday after church we would get in the car and drive to the orphanage. Mother would bake bread and cookies, and she would go through our clothes and give the items we'd outgrown to the children at this orphanage. One Sunday, she was putting clothes in the basket and I noticed she had put one of my favorite caps inside. I immediately protested, but she reminded me that I had a new cap. "The child that's going to get this cap doesn't have a parent to give him a new cap," she said, "and you do." She told me I ought to be glad that I could give up the cap. I never forgot that. Being compassionate, being concerned for your fellow man, doing everything you can to help people?that's the kind of religion I have, and it's a comforting religion. I don't get involved in discussions of intelligent design. You can't answer those questions, so why fool with them? You can never learn enough. There was a historian in the fourteenth century who wrote a book about what he knew of the world, and for that time it was pretty good. One of the interesting observations he made is that all the tribes that have difficulty feeding themselves are lean and healthy, and those that have plenty of food are fat, lazy, and unhealthy. What I've learned , Michael DeBakey, Heart Surgeon , 99, Houston |

In general, buying investment properties to rent out for rental income is not a good choice. Cos if u work it out,the returns is low....maybe 3% a year. And subject to many tenants problems. Ur oni gain from property investment is from capital gains, that is,if u are lucky. Think shares dividends is better and easy to collect. |

Please do not let those bottle throwing ignorants stop you from visiting the world. You can always find discrimination in different countries, even here.

I knew sooner or later someone would post this: "...the way you dress,..dresses and behaves like a china man." As I had the opportunity to live in the West for many years, I believe I know the difference. It is one thing to be understanding but another to blame the victim. |

I would not rent my house to China Chinese too, althought they are willing to pay 10% more for the market rates. My neighbour rented his flat to China Chinese an regretted ever since. Before they left, the China chinese put pebbles into the air-con drain pipe and cause massive leaking. There were also Ketchup splashed at the walls of the bedroom. I have another friend who rented his flat HDB flat to china chinese. One year later when they leave, he went back to the flat and almost got a heart attack. These people had partition his flat with small cubicles. My housing agent told me that most of her clients specifically instruct her not to accept China Chinese tenants. I have been to Vancouver and Melbourne. I have not encountered any racist problems. You can be mistakenly singled out by the way you dress, I guess. My friend has some bottle throwing episodes when he was in Sydney because, in nature, he dresses and behaves like a china man. In Vancouver, the way these China Chinese behave in public places actually "siah suey" chinese. Go to a bus stop, whether in Singapore or Austratia, you will know that the China Chinese has been there. The floor will be full of spittings. Cheers

I visited that country a few times; but during the last visit, I also did not feel comfortable there. Of course, I should not forget there are also friendly people there. People from China/Vietnam/anywhere don't deserve that water bottle. I think that bottle thrower needs to get out of his/her country and expand his/her small mindset.
