I still have not master/ believe in the art of cutting lost. Thinking that if I can afford to hold and company FA is good, cutting lost is wasting $$.. I need to rethink.

Normally, those who never cut loss or too late to cut loss become long-term investors and collect dividends, try not to be one of them if possible. Long-term investors try to hold those uptrend stocks, not downtrend ones. As capital is limited, so I prefer to be a trader, later on accumulate enough then can buy some for investments. I only keep some good fundamental stocks like SGX, Kep Corp, Ezion and some penny stocks like Sapphire, Aussino using CPF funds for longer term and let them multiply. At the moment, my portfolio include GMG, Gallant, China Sky, Cosco, Genting, Biosensors, Bright World, Innotek... but changing fast everyday or every week. As long as I think still good will hold on, once chart tells me I must run, I will quickly run and change counter.

I'm tired with trading, presently my portfolio are focus on high yield stocks such as Saizen, AA, Sabana, First, Sp Ausnet and banks. wish to have 8% of return for every year. |

Starhill global has the potential for more upside plus the dividend yield not bad, around 6.4%. Also, price movement not so drastic.

Sold all my KS Energy shares at a loss... cannot make it. Now into deep paper loss again... caused by mermaid and Raffles Edu. Thinking of getting another Reits for dividend play , maybe Starhill. Any comments ? thks

The way I look at it, it is not only about limited fund (or limited bullets); I suspect it is the chartists' philosophy by training. Chartists seemed to prefer focusing on shorter time horizon and they recognised the fact that even experts do misread the charts or make mistakes. In such cases, what they are expected to do is to cut losses because they were trained to believe "all huge losses resulted from small losses". Equally important, the money realised from the stop-loss sales can be subsequently deployed for other perceived profitable trades. They see their goal in trading as making money, not to develop any form of relationship with the stocks' fundamentals or to prove they are smart - or so they were taught. Personally, I do not like the idea of setting a "stop-loss" target. As you mentioned, if we have the power to hold, why waste money on cutting losses, especially when the companies' fundamentals are sound?

Very humbly, i agree that if you have holding power, you need not cut loss. In fact, you should be happily buying more should the price drops. However, most retail players, including myself of course, do not have unlimited bullets. Hence, need to fight like gureillas(how to spell?). Also agree that if it is a good counter, it will come back, but can't agree with the "soon".
