India, China to expand cooperation in coal NEW DELHI:Recognising the importance of coal in the emerging global energy scenario, India and China have decided to expand their cooperation in this sector. The two countries reviewed their growing cooperation in this field at the 11th session of the Indo-China Joint Working Group on Coal, which concluded here Tuesday, an official release said on Wednesday. The Indian delegation headed by H C Gupta, secretary of the ministry of coal, and the Chinese delegation led by Zhao Tiechui, administrator of the State Administration of Coal Mines Safety, agreed that there was scope for a proactive joint approach to add a more functional dimension to the bilateral relationship. The two sides recognised the fact that the rapidly changing global energy situation has shifted the international focus on the role of coal in energy planning. They agreed to pursue cooperation in exchange of coal mining technology, equipment and coalmines safety, certification of mining equipment, capacity building and promotion of investment opportunities India Times - 5-Apr-07 |
