I am in the industrial field day in and out dealing with almost 80% WP, SP and EP from all over. But my Singaporean graduate friends mostly out of job, why? Simple, they have to pay more, even if they ask for the same pay, employer's mind thinking is they are not for long.

As long as there is option for cheaper workforce and outsider who wants to be here with mean packages, it's deal. The end result is more people coming to share the same size of cake.

REVERSAL in New Millennium

In the 70s, Top and Middle Management positions were taken by EXPATRIATES.

Over the 80s, there was the MANAGEMENT LOCALISATION PROGRESS to reduce EXPATRIATE OVERHEAD.

Progressively, C-Tier and M-Tier positions were filled by local Singaporeans.

SUDDENLY, in the New Millennium, there is a TOTAL TREND REVESAL back to the 70S.

Local Singaporean faces are now MiSSiNG at the C-Tier and M-Tier appointments.

WORST STILL, even Local Singapore Enterprises STARTED REPLACING C-Tier and M-Tier appointments TRADITIONALLY HELD by LOCAL SINGAPOREANS with FOREIGN EXPATRIATES.

Is this a PROGRESSION or DEGRESSION or DISGRESSION

of LOCAL SINGAPOREAN MANAGEMENT TALENT DEVELOPMENT ? ? ? ?

According to the Ministry of Manpower, for workers aged 55 and above, 18,600 earn gross monthly income of under $500, 64,000 earn less than $1,000, and 46,400 earn below $1,500. This means that 42 per cent of elderly workers earn less than $1,000.

The only way I see is to cut the top executive pay by 40%. They are overpaid for the least responsibility job. Their pay cut can bring in more capital to lower wages worker and also have more good quality projects too. But... no top people will want to see their own pay cut... Got to wait for the serious global crisis that last many years in order to see this happen... lol.. Smiley
