At close of offer today, UOL received acceptances and bought from the open market 48.94% of UIC. Therefore, the offer has lapsed without becoming unconditional. What this means is that the GO for SpLand will not proceed and UIC minorities (3.37%) who accepted the offer will have their shares returned to them. This leaves UOL & gang controlling 45.57% of UIC. From announcement today, MS sold their UIC to UOL. So, now there are 2....WCY and Gongweki. Game over, WCY has strengthened his hold on UIC. Difficult for GWK to gain the upperhand now. Back to the doldrums......can expect UIC to move according to market sentiment.... http://info.sgx.com/webcoranncatth.nsf/VwAttachments/Att_358A70C2585A4DD94825756E004C0B06/$file/CloseofOfferAnnouncement_3March2009.pdf?openelement |

From Fri (27 Feb) trade, 194,426,000 shares were married at 1.20. Of this, there was one married trade of 130,950,000. Two other significant trades were 29,866,000 and 18,302,000. Checking thru the significant shareholders list, I suspect MS may have thrown their lot to the UOL thru the open market cos, besides them, there does not seem to be any other significant shareholder with 130,950,000 shares (last MS reporting they held 150,680,005 shares). Think this 45% stake may spur WCY to take control.....afterall, he needs to secure about 65m more shares in the next 2 days...(GO closes 5.30pm Tues). Alternatively, he can extend the offer period, or up the offer price a bit ..........upping the offer price may not cost him that much as he only has to match this price for those who have accepted the GO. Those who sold in the open market will not be entitled to the improved price.

There was tug-of-war in taking control of UIC bt UOL n Gokongwei, a Phi tycoon. Fri, UOL bought 177530 lots of UIC shares. Bulk of them done at 1.20 others 1.18 n 1.19. Thats explains d extremely high vol. There were d merried deal, fr financing institute. UOL now is holding 45% stake but his target is 50%. Hence, will see more active trading on UIC next week or so. Bet who better ah? If playing pocker, Capland show hand, UIC chow liao. But once Mr Wee take over totally control of UIC, then can carry on the game liao. BTW, UIC, UOL n UOB Mr Wee is the Chairman.
