Too frequent defragging and virus scanning can wear out a hard disk faster, because it is a basically mechanical device. These actions have the effect of violent and high speed 'massaging' of the moving parts of the hard disk, thus can contribute to early breadown of the hard disk if done routinely. My computer which I used for trading has an XP SP2 OS, trading software, IE7, MS Excel 2003 and is connected to a laser printer. I have a similiar HDD which contain the same image just incase HDD died. Other stuffs are done on another PC. Trading is a business to me so I dun prey prey with my tool I used. | ||||

For surfing use Mozilla Firefox, much2 superior than Internet Explorer http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/ If you dont want to use Microsoft Office, consider Open Office, the best part is that open office, u can save file as window file and the best part, it is free.......http://www.openoffice.org/ To watch free movies on the Internet........... Movies on Demand http://www.movies-on-demand.ws/ To watch sports for free, ie soccer go here http://www.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports But of course u need to download the P2P software to watch these programme, I always uses Sopcast http://www.sopcast.com/ When using Sopcast u can get HBO, Star Movie, even movies shown in Taiwan/HK.... hehehehe enjoy. |

To defrag u can use Auslogic Disk Defrag, much superior n faster. take less than 10 minutes to defrag. http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag Before that use CCleaner to clean up (yes practically clean up everything), http://www.ccleaner.com/ they clean up your malware, clean up your registry, history, almost everything, solid tools. Just make sure dont click start menu shortcut and desktop shortcut, and wipe free spaces, the rest can click.... |

Sorry, to do health check n defragmentation, u can do it at d backgrd, simply minimise d app page n carry on your normal task ie online trading, chat box, reading papers etc. HOW: Go Control panel, Select Administratvie Tools, clk Computer management, select Storage. Select Defragmentation, then choose which drive to be defragented first. Go thro all d disks, including ext disk if u hv it n thumb drive as well. Time taken, for a 40G disk, it needs 4-6 hrs to clean all sectors, depending how messy d disk is. After each task, system will let u view d final result, system may prompt u to either repair bad sector or even remove d bad sector(system will move d bad sector to d last sector of d FAT). If system prompted u to remove d unidentified file stored, u may either purge them or keep them in CD. Happy usage. Cheers.

No problem on AK Xp leh. Indeed now browsing faster n less hiccup, esp during surfing Msia Chinese news papers, best when u encouter Web unable to display site prompting, u just click d problem icon, d wanted site will be instantly reappeared. Staggering 6 windows page on one 22" screen fine leh, ie 3 online broking films, BT, SJ n Yahoo. 100Mhz on my remote local lan, son n daughter make no complaint so far. BTW, as AK has mentioned earlier, if your computer after using for more than 2 to 3 yrs, your compuoter FAT(32) likely not in order liao. U need to do hse keeping by doing health check and defragmentation on d OS drive, norm Dr C n data storage Dr, norm D, unless u hv partion in Dr C alone. D main reason is to bring one opt program files into d same sector in d File Allocation Table, for ease n smooth running, instead of scattering all related program files in other sectors in d FAT. With bad FAT configuration, d consequence is crashes or hang. Always let your OS dr clean with application software only, dun store any files there, esp non system Exe files which u loaded somewhere. Another step to avoid hacking. Lastly n not least, Bill G working grp definitely had tried out all d measures to ensure there is no conflict in system opt in any new software introduced within d same opt plateform. Win XP and XP Pro are the better performers in windows environment. I tried Window Vista and found it is too slow in their versions and to have slow to moderate speed you need to install more RAMs. Even at 4G Rams, my laptop on dailup is still very slow. I haven't tried the wireless modem, and am afraid to subscribe if it is no better than my dial-up. As for IE8, I dared not install, because last time when I installed IE7, all things did not work smoothly, so I stick to my older version of IEs, think it is IE65 or 6. |

Just uninstall my IE8.....SGX website cannot see price....map.gov.sg crashed or hanged.... I will wait until it stablized !!!!!
BTW my OS is still XP....after I uninstall Vista....horrible.....even with a dual-core....

Ha ha, if AK not mistaken, either way lah, left brain is for arithmatics, right brain is for senses n control of body movement. If I take too much beer, my last 2 fingers at my both hands would affect d other 3 fingers, hindering d correct moment which I indented to do. Few instances, I not even could sign my signature correctly. After stop taking beer for few days, holding pen no issue liao. But seem like d last 2 fingers still not recover yet. Must consult my High Blood pressure problem follow-up consultant in Jul then see how loh. Teh tarek ok lah, not red bull, hazardous loh. But on d other hand taking to much suger daily in kopitiam also harmful leh, may develop diabetic sickness instead ah. Ha, old alrdy, kiah see.

Side track a little from here. Does anyone knows how to get Live steaming for mobile phones? Meaning by the seconds update like what we see on a computer screen. Currently, what POEMS has is mobile trading platform which one need to refresh manually to get the latest price. Sometimes refresh too many times & get logout. |

IF you guyes like this browser and dont like IE engine, you can download orca browser from the same website, which is same as avant but uses firefox. | ||||

Hi Guys,
Try using Aant browser (www.avantbrowser.com) instead of IE. this is light weight browser and uses IE Engine in the background,. good thing about this browser is, it will also saves all your settings /bookmarks online, so if you are using multiple computers in multiple locations you no need to worry about your settings and bookmarks, it will be in sync in all computers.
it takes few days to get used to this browser, but once you are getused to this you feel very comfortable i bet. i am using this browser from last 5 years without any issue.
remember it uses IE engine so all the cache and history is shared between IE and Avant.

Alamah, AK learn fr d young one lah. Old liao, right brain not working well leh, left brain still working fine but a bit slow. Confirm ah, few days ago, a near miss of losing my wallet second time owing to d same mistake made, ie d wallet dropped on d floor instead of being putting back into d side pocket, in d kopitiam. Heng ah, d Tiger Girl picked it up for me. BTW. AK stopping beer biz since end May liao. Daily heartbeat is quite high, then up to 116/min. Rashes over d body may be another site effect loh. After stopping alcohol, now below 100 n sometime ard 70s. Rashes issue fine now, after taking medication. Few days ago, Polyclinic's doc told me that my blood n urine test result is very good, all organs is working fine, less brain, ha ha. May need to change d drinking style after consulting d consultant in NUH on 20 Jul. Cheers.
