capitalize on up market days... today is an up market day..time to sell into strength.. pick up whenever sti dips to low 3300 or loses abt 1-2 % or more.. make money in this "gloomy" market.. but next week last week to pick up before the rally comes.. |

Livermore, A few years ago I read an article of a japanese invention, turning human faeces into food for humans. The japanese inventor demonstrated his invention to a tv audience, eating his own "reprocess food" while a few others try it too. They said it doesn't smell anything like faeces and taste okay. If the japanese invention become acceptable, could our human faeces become the next hot commodity. Yikk!! |

With oil price heading higher, there is a lot of emphasis on alternative energy. Now corn, sugar, palm are being used to make bio-fuels. World population expected to grow as affluence grows. The estimate is 9 billion people by 2040 and now we have 6.5 billion. We will need to feed more people. Thus don't be surprised to see agricultural commodity prices heading higher in the long term |

Someone talked about wanting to 'invest' in an investment that reaps 6%. With FD, there is ZERO risk (unless the bank goes bankrupt and you have your 20K max insurance). For 6%, there bound to be some risk tided with it. If the risk to gain 6% is 10% would you be game enuff? Lets talk about the risk associated with the gain. Too many time we focus on the gain but forgo the understanding of the risk involved. There is an investment called DCD (Dual Currency Deposit) or DCI (Dual Currency Investment) available with most banks in which if you have a desire to want to buy a foreign currency that yield high interest (e.g. NZD and AUD) and to place a long term FD. While waiting for the foreign exchange to be in your favor, The DCD give you an option. If the tenure (e.g. 1 month) for your investment expired and it doesnt hit (strike price) the exchange rate in which you have desired, you will still have your capital in SGD plus the earned enhanced deposit rate(which is usually dependent on the tenure, strike price and amt invested). Usually its more then SGD FD rate. You can then do it again with your capital plus the earned interest or withdraw altogether. If the strike price hits, your capital will be converted to the foreign currency desired plus the interest earned. You can then reverse the DCD or put the converted currency into a long term FD in which was your primary objective. Whats the risk. The forex exchange rate in which you desired is the component in which you have to have a discipline on. This investment is great for those who wants to EXCHANGE their SGD to a foreign currency and enjoy the high interest yield. The longer you lock in your FD, the higher the rate. I believe DBS Treasures, ABN AMRO Van Gogh, RHB Premium Banking and Citibank have such investment. |

For the next 1-2 weeks, the market will be quiet. The lowest point for STI is around here. No more drastic dropped in the index. This is a 3 month cycle which started since the sub-prime issue. The first wave started on august when US financial companies report their quarterly earnings, they discover about their losses from sub-prime mortgage loans. This is the first shock, the market starts their sell off until mid august.... By then investors are thinking that they have oversold. And those who have made sustaintial losses will sit back to heal their wounds. After 17th August, trading volume decreased. And the market starts to slowly pick up from September and peaking 1-2 weeks after Fed surprise everyone with a 0.5 percentage pt rate cut. Novemeber is 3 months from August, companies starts their quarterly report again. When they start to realise that more unknown from sub-prime has been found out and they have to make further writedowns, the market panics again. The sell off process starts all over again. What I feel now is if not almost the bottom of the sell off. The trading volume has decreased quite abit. By December, those who have healed their wounds will start to hunt for a cheap stock to buy and slowly the market will pick up abit of live. By 11th Dec, Fed might surprise everyone again with a rate cut and that will trigger a christmas rally which has not failed so far. But the party will most likely end by February as companies start their quarterly report again and more sub-prime losses will be detected. And the sell off process will repeat itself again. This process will carry on until the market is fully aware of the damages done by sub-prime. Just my 2 cents worth. |
