* STI reverses earlier losses, up 0.26 percent * Gains seen capped at 3,250 in afternoon session * Yangzijiang leads gains, up after brokerage raises target By Charmian Kok SINGAPORE, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Singapore shares reversed earlier losses to end 0.26 percent higher at the midday break on Tuesday, tracking gains in Hong Kong stocks. The Straits Times Index (STI) <.FTSTI> was up 8.49 points at 3,237.76 at the end of the morning session. The total value of shares traded was S$859.9 million, up slightly from S$854.6 million during the first half of Monday's trading session. The STI will likely face profit-taking pressure in coming days as investors turn more cautious because of renewed concerns Portugal would be forced into a bailout, said Ng Kian Teck, an investment analyst at SIAS Research. He tips the STI to trade in 3,200-3,250 range this afternoon, with investors looking towards Europe for further cues about Portugal's debt woes. "Overall, energy firms did pretty well today because of higher oil prices overnight. The floods in Australia have also raised concerns of a shortage in coal and thus higher coal prices," said Ng. Shares of coal miner Straits Asia Resources rose 0.8 percent to S$2.61 with over 2.3 million shares changing hands. Sembcorp Marine , the world's second-largest oil rig builder, also gained 0.8 percent at S$5.19 by midday. Chinese shipbuilder Yangzijiang was among the top gainers, rising 2.6 percent to S$1.99 after Credit Suisse raised its target price to S$2.40 from S$2.20 and kept its "outperform" rating. "We believe Yangzijiang is the best positioned among Chinese yards to benefit from a recovery in container ship orders as the largest container ship producer in China with more than 10 percent market share," said Credit Suisse in a report. Shares of Xinren Aluminum rose 4.6 percent to S$0.575, boosted by strong earnings from larger peer Alcoa Inc , a local trader said.
