Gold traders most bullish in 5 months

Gold maintains shine: 'Physical demand remains very robust. People see gold prices as good value at these levels,' says GoldCore's Mark O'Byrne - PHOTO: BLOOMBERG

[LONDON] Gold traders are the most bullish in five months on signs that demand for coins and jewellery increased during a plunge in prices that prompted billionaire investor John Paulson to cut his holding for the first time since 2011.

Thirteen analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expect prices to rise this week, four were bearish and five neutral, the highest proportion of bulls since March 8. Consumer buying of the metal jumped 53 per cent in the second quarter from a year earlier, almost making up for the record sales of exchange-traded products backed by bullion, World Gold Council data show.

Gold is set for its first annual decline in 13 years after some investors lost faith in the metal as a store of value, sparking losses for mining companies and hedge funds. Mr Paulson, the biggest investor in the SPDR Gold Trust, the largest gold ETP, cut his stake by 53 per cent in the second quarter, an Aug 14 government filing showed. The slump spurred purchases and a 16 per cent price rally from a 34-month low on June 28.

" People buying physical gold are more about having a store of wealth in the medium to long term whereas the ETP liquidations are more the speculative side," said Mark O'Byrne, the executive director of Dublin-based GoldCore Ltd, a brokerage that sells and stores bullion coins and bars. " Physical demand remains very robust. People see gold prices as good value at these levels."

SG markets all kia si! :)

minimal movements..

other bourses have better volatility.. HSI would be a good market to trade in

SG market really cmi. When US rally, we remain resilient. When US plunge, we follow. And the whole irony is that the economy is recovering and people fear that QE will taper, which I don't think will happen that soon. The only consolation that I have now is that  I can collect stocks cheap. Seriously, what's up man? =X

Sino Grandness

Investment Theme Intact

2QFY13 results as good as expected. Sino Grandness reported a set of good results. Revenue grew by 27% yoy to RMB595m and net profit grew by 24% yoy to RMB103m. 1H net profit accounted for 44% of our full year forecast. We maintain our earnings forecast unchanged as we believe that the company can do even better in 2H13 due to acceleration in beverage sales. The biggest catalyst for the stock, the spinoff of Garden Fresh, seems intact. Maintain BUY and target price of SGD1.89, based on SOTP valuation.

Garden Fresh: RMB250m profit target should be achievable.
Beverage sector (" Garden Fresh" ) continues to perform well with revenue up 48% yoy in 2Q. 1H beverage revenue achieved RMB585m. Although the company does not disclose the net profit for beverage sector, we estimate the number to be around RMB110m. In our view, full year profit target of RMB250m should be achievable as we assume stronger beverage sales in the second half of the year, thanks to the summer season and the new distribution network.

Further expansion of distribution network.
Sino Grandness announced a few days ago that it has secured access into two big convenience store operators, which in aggregate have more than 6,000 convenience stores in China. With better brand name awareness via increasing investment in A& P and the expansion in distribution network, we are optimistic on the growth outlook of the company in long term.

Domestic canned food set to support the growth after Garden Fresh spinoff.
Domestic canned products (mainly consist of various canned fruits) continues its growth momentum in 2Q with revenue up 34% yoy. Management tries to leverage on current distribution network to introduce more products going forward. We expect this division to deliver 30% p.a. growth in the next three years to provide the growth engine for the remaining business after Garden Fresh spinoff.

Investment story intact.
Our main investment story on Sino Grandness, the value unlocking via Garden Fresh spinoff, seems intact. The next step will be appointing investment bankers, which we expect to finish in the next two months. BUY maintained. Sino Grandness ? Summary Earnings Table

CSE Global: Simplifying CSE
CSE Global Limited reported 2Q13 results that were generally in-line with ours and the street?s estimate. 2Q core net profit increased 12% YoY to S$12m, mainly due to (i) the lower level of zero-margin revenue in the Middle East and (ii) higher level of more profitable offshore work in the Americas. Separately, the group disclosed that it intends to divest 100% of its ownership in its UK subsidiary through a separate listing on the London Stock Exchange. We are positive on the move. Besides unlocking value, we believe the spin-off would simplify and improve oversight of CSE?s different businesses. Maintain BUY with an unchanged S$0.96 FV.

Nam Cheong (S$0.285)

Awakening within the Channel Analyst: Yeo Kee Yan+65 6398 7955

Recommendation: Buy TP: $0.36 keeyan@dbsvickers.com

revenue & earnings forecast2QFY13 results says group on-track to meet FY

shows stock has upside to $0.355

News (2QFY13 results release) ?2Q net profit of RM41.1mil

(up 83% y-o-y) was slightly higher than expectation driven

by higher vessel sales. 1HFY13 net profit of RM76.9m now

accounts for close to 47% of full year earnings estimate,

where 2H is usually seasonally stronger. Meanwhile, overall

gross margin held steady at 19.5%. Nam Cheong has

already sold 16 vessels worth a total of US$311m in FY13,

and is well on track to beat the record of 21 vessels sold in

FY12. Balance sheet remains relatively healthy with net

gearing reduced to 0.31x from 0.38x at end-FY12, which

allows the Group headroom to continue and expand its

new building programme.

Fundamental ? 2QFY13 results release points to the group

on-track to meet DBSV Research?s FY revenue and earnings

forecast. Our current TP of $0.36 is pegged at 10x blended

FY13-FY14. Our analyst is likely to maintain the BUY

recommendation with current earnings forecast & TP under

review.

Technical ? The stock?s major rising trend channel is intact

that currently places major support at $0.27 and major

resistance at $0.35. Current near-term support is at 0.28-

0.285. Fibonacci projection shows the stock has eventual

upside potential to $0.355, which is in-line with our current

fundamental TP.

With the rising trend intact and the latest earnings showing

the group on track to meet FY13 forecast, expect the stock

to trend higher to the major rising trend channel return

(resistance) line currently at $0.35.

Action ? Buy at $0.285 near-term support. Price action

shows stock has upside potential to $0.355.Buy at near-term support $0.28-0.285, price action

Nam Cheong Ltd: 2Q net profit jumped 81% YoY
Nam Cheong Limited?s 2Q13 revenue and net profit jumped by 84% and 81% YoY to RM275m and RM41m respectively, driven by increase in shipbuilding activity. 1H net profit was RM76m and formed 50% and 46% of ours and the street?s FY13F estimates. We will provide further updates after its briefing later. In the meantime, we keep our BUY rating and S$0.35 FV estimate unchanged. (OCBC)
