Guru Warren Buffett knew the "Six basic tenets of Dow Theory" very well !  R u follow?

Stock market averages must confirm each other
---> According to this logic, if manufacturers' profits are rising, it follows that they are producing more. If they produce
more, then they have to ship more goods to consumers. Hence, if an investor is looking for signs of health in manufacturers,
he or she should look at the performance of the companies that ship the output of them to market, the railroads. The two
averages should be moving in the same direction. When the performance of the averages diverge, it is a warning that
change is in the air. Both Barron's Magazine and the Wall Street Journal still publish the daily performance of the
Dow Jones Transportation Index in chart form. The index contains major railroads, shipping companies, and
air freight carriers in the US.

...Buffett previewed his company's first-quarter earnings report at the meeting at Omaha's Qwest Center. He said Berkshire
rebounded from last year's first-quarter loss and earned $3.6 billion as the economic recovery began and Berkshire absorbed
Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad......

Six basic tenets of Dow Theory:

1.The market has three movements

2.Market trends have three phases

3.The stock market discounts all news

4.Stock market averages must confirm each other
--> In Dow's time, the US was a growing industrial power. The US had population centers but factories were scattered
throughout the country.  Factories had to ship their goods to market, usually by rail. Dow's first stock averages were
an index of industrial (manufacturing) companies and rail companies. To Dow, a bull market in industrials could not occur
unless the railway average rallied as well, usually first.

---> According to this logic, if manufacturers' profits are rising, it follows that they are producing more. If they produce
more, then they have to ship more goods to consumers.
Hence, if an investor is looking for signs of health in manufacturers,
he or she should look at the performance of the companies that ship the output of them to market
, the railroads. The two
averages should be moving in the same direction.

5.Trends are confirmed by volume

6.Trends exist until definitive signals prove that they have ended

PPL boosted S$5.4 million dividend for Baker Tech in past year 2009, What about this year's dividend?
Who shd receive PPL's 2010 dividend?

Many BBs' plots are very much depending on SHAREJUNCTION's "Prominent Citizens", we computed
the stocks' TA and FA informations, then BBs use it for making the "Market Trends". Cheers !!!

COSCO pins hopes on 2010 recovery

Hong Kong: Things can only get better. That was the overriding message from China COSCO Holdings at its annual results announcement yesterday in Hong Kong. The Chinese conglomerate suffered a worst than expected second half.
COSCO made a net loss of 2.87 billion yuan ($420.4 million) during the six months ended December against a loss of 3.5 billion yuan a year earlier.
For the full year, China COSCO posted a net loss of 7.47 billion yuan, reversing a profit of 11.62 billion yuan in 2008.
Looking ahead, the line was more upbeat. "It is expected that annual average freight rates will increase significantly and liners will achieve better results of operation," the company said in a statement. "However ... the pressure on the container liner shipping market will continue."
The dry bulk market will be better this year but will see pressure from additional capacity supply, it added. [23/04/10]

Cosco upgraded to ‘buy’ by CLSA; raises target to $2.30 (^.^  )

CLSA has upgraded Cosco Corp. (F83.SG) to “buy” from “outperform” on expectations of more order wins,
    sector-wide re-rating. Raises target to $2.30 from $1.65 based on 21x P/E vs 15.5x previously,
    says Dow Jones.

“We remain positive on the company given lower execution risk associated with offshore orders and its
first mover advantage (in terms of operations in deepwater semi-submersible business) vs peers,”
    says CLSA.

The research house notes China-based shipbuilder in talks with European, US drillers, adds Japan’s
Modec may also be potential customer: “While not part of its traditional client base, we expect Cosco
to add Chinese oil nationals like Sinopec and CNOOC to its clientele, as these companies ramp up
exploration and production activity in Chinese waters and elsewhere
    .”

Separately, Yangzijiang has applied to the TWSE (Taiwanese Stock Exchange) to list its TDRs on that exchange,
according to the Taipei business press.

Actually, investors had started to take a second look at the marine and offshore sector before these two events.
The trigger was probably the announcement by Cosco Corporation back in March that it had clinched a repeat
order from Sevan Marine for its one-of-kind cylindrical semi-sub. This time, the order value was US$500 million
    compared to US$190 million
for the first semi-sub in 2006.

Then on Apr 16, Brazilian oil major Petrobras announced it had signed on Apr 4 a “Strategic Cooperation
Agreement with China Petrochemical Cooperation (Sinopec) and China Development Bank Corporation (CDB)
aimed at assessing mutually beneficial opportunities on the areas of cooperation.”

According to the announcement by Petrobras, the agreement includes the cooperation between Petrobras and
Sinopec in Exploration & Production (E&P); Downstream; Petrochemical and Fertilisers; and Services and
    Procurement.

“In the E&P area, there stands out the intention of the parties to assess future partnerships, including the
possibility of selling part of Petrobras’s interest in blocks BM-PAMA-3 and BM-PAMA-8, located in the
Para-Maranhao Basin,” the announcement states. Petrobras also said that it is negotiating on financing with
China Development Bank Corporation. Sinopec may need an additional two semi-subs to develop the two blocks
and analysts believe the order could go to state-owned Chinese shipyards such as Cosco.

    .................. .. ..

Offshore and marine stocks such as Baker Tech, Yangzijiang, Cosco and SembMarine have
run up significantly and are now experiencing consolidations/corrections.

Their uptrends remain very much intact and there is nothing yet to suggest a reversal. Note
though that Yangzijiang has developed a short-term bearish formation in the candlestick charts,
but the correction should be temporary.
